Doctor Who series 5: the first full trailer
Simon Brew
David Tennant's gone, but Matt Smith is on his way in - here's the newly-released trailer for Doctor Who series 5...
Published on Jan 1, 2010
The Doctor firing a gun? That's the first sign of change for the new era of Doctor Who, that begins in the Spring as Steven Moffat takes charge behind the camera, and Matt Smith steps into the Doctor's shoes in front of it.
While the trailer for the upcoming fifth series wasn't screened at the end of The End Of Time Part Two on BBC One, it was broadcast on BBC Three, and it's now available here too.

And also, tell me that the girl kissing him is just, that, kissing him and won't be some "romantic" story with him :P

Tim Burtonesque feel to this Dr Who series 5 trailer. Anything has to be better than the mess that was End Of Time. Lets hope the Moff keeps the soapy elements out of Dr Who, and more of sci-fi storytelling that Dr Who is known for. Looks good. Nice to see those Weeping Angles back!. Thank God Russell T. Davies has gone. Roll on the Moff.

Forwardlook07 - you are clearly a fool.
RTD breathed life into a Who franchise that had been hi-jacked (unsuccessfully) by the Yanks and then dropped FOREVER until he picked it up and resurrected it.
SHAME ON YOU SIR.
"the mess that was the end of time"??
I think you will shortly RUE typing those words - FOOL!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Yes, I agree Chriton13. Russell Davies brought Who back from the dead so please stop picking on him. He's gone now, and I wonder what other delights he will bring to screen (hopefully more genre stuff!) :-) Matt Smith looks like a more than capable Doctor, and as Tenant himself said soon we'll have forgotten him and adopted Matt... I'm glad to see the angel statues have made a reapperance too! Tenant was great, but then we thought that of Ecclestone too. David, we'll miss you Sir, and I hope you'll team up with Mr. Davies again soon.

I'm not a fool Crichton13. Russell can write decent Dr. Who when he's in the mood. The End Of Time just proves to me that Russell T. Davies has outstayed his welcome. David Tennant deserved a better end than the End Of Time. Russell may have breathed life into Dr. Who, but has delivered some real stinkers as well. Voyage Of The Damned, Long Game, Planet Of The Dead, Runaway Bride etc... plus a soapy dumbed down element to Dr. Who that isn't wanted. The best episodes have been those not written RTD. RTD has alot to answer for. I stick by what I say. The End Of Time was appalling. I liked David Tennant as the 10th Doctor, his performance has been superb. But what a naff story to go out on. I'll stick with a decent regeneration sequence and decently written story called The Caves Of Androzani by a writer who knows how to write a good regeneration story. . .Robert Holmes. Enough said.

I thought The End of Time was amazing, and I think the new series with Matt Smith will be cool as well, although the sunglasses might be a bit too much. I think the events of the End of Time contributed to his more violent nature, as we see him hitting a Dalek, punching people, firing a gun, even though neither the Tenth or the Ninth Doctor (or any Doctor for that matter, although I can't be sure) was willing to pick up a gun, until Tennant finally did in the end. But I suppose it'll just be a flash gun, shooting fireworks, or he's giving a warning shot.
It all looks good fun though. I just hope it keeps up with quality and doesn't descend into Robin Hood and Merlin atrocities. Doctor Who has a reputation to keep up! And good luck to Matt Smith! After DT's amazing Shakespearian performance of the Doctor's final scenes, he's got even bigger shoes to fill, especially in my mind. Because that was just awesome. Thank God RTD invented that loophole in which the MetaCrisis Doctor might return and DT as well. RTD already mentioned the DW anniversary in a few years, in which maybe an Eleven Doctors special might be appropriate. But anyway, enough about DT! Matt Smith looks like he could be amazing as the Doctor! Especially if he grows into the role! I have faith that the Moff will keep us all at the edge of our seats!

Hey guys, can't we at least limit the arguments about the last episode to one page at a time?!
RTD has polarised fans to such an extent that I'm looking forward to us being able to get away from the bickering.
For my money, this new trailer looks excellent. Interesting to see the Doctor punching and shooting (a bit Pertwee-esque?), and hopefully Moffat won't have repeated RTD's mistake in casting assistants who look fine but sadly can't act particularly well.

Great Trailer! Looks like 2010 will be good for Who. What's with all the RTD bashing in an article about series 5?Get over yourselves, surely now we can have "The End of Slagging off RTD Time"?

I'd like to hope the emo-Doctor is a done concept but RTD's influence is likely to extend beyond the grave so to speak...nevertheless Moffat is da man and if anyone can regenerrate the series to keep both old and new viewers happy - its him.

Some good moments in that trailer. I'm looking forward to actually getting some new regular episodes and hoping for a bit more consistency.

as someone who has read almost every script for series five, can I be the first to say it's brilliant and the season finale cliffhanger will blow your mind.

i love the new doctor, i mean no doubt David was amazing, but i mean he looks fantastic. He is very animated, and also the theme has gone a bit indie this time? Or is it just me?

I'm sure it'll take a while to get used to the new guy, normally does, but from the trailer above, and with Stephen Moffat in charge, I'm looking forward to it!

Great new doctor but not really taken on by the gun... after all David T was only using a gun to save all of mankind... so the gun is a downer for me but we will wait to see what comes... ;o) Good luck to David Tennant and Good luck to Matt Smith.

I think it looks great and will be great! I don't think you get the job of controlling BBC1s biggest show without making sure everything is perfect so I'm looking forward to it loads! Also, can everyone stop saying MS has "pretty big shoes to fill"? It's getting old now. Anyway, everyone knows those shoes are bigger on the inside.

MANY Doctors have at least held guns (five and nine off the top of my head) and nothing says he is shooting a person or other living thing, the gun does not worry me in the least, the kissing, well, I'm worried esp. in light of all the comments regarding the love between Amy and Eleven.

Over the past few weeks I like every other fan have been wondering what the new interior console room will look like and so when the photos showing it were published I was happy until I watched the doctor who series 5 trailer which amongst other things shows a silver metalic console room, could anyone explain tp me which is the new one, the one in the photos on this site or is it the one in the trailer: take a look at the 11th doctors trailer & you will see what I mean.
Yours confusedly

Hi
Matt Smith looks to be a brilliant doctor, I say this from having grown up with doctor who and also from meeting the late great Jon Pertwee & Tom Baker who both filmed their first adventures at Woodnorton outside of Evesham, So Yay Matt Smith carry on entertaining us and well done for having such a sexy assistant in Karen Gillian.

I assumed that the TARDIS interior in the trailer was underneath, or a different room or something. I could be wrong though!
