Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: new live action film!

Simon Brew

Just when you thought that the Ninja Turtles were done on the big screen, up pops a brand new adventure…

Published on Apr 23, 2009

Even though the animated movie TMNT didn't do quite the business its creators were probably hoping for, the cinematic future of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is still surprisingly bright. For it's been announced today that a brand new film is going into production, and this time, it's going to be a live action venture.

The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was, for a long time, the most successful non-studio film ever made, and while the sequels petered out off the back of the waning mainstream support for the franchise, there's still a deep fanbase of the original comic book material. And there's also, as the Turtles celebrate their 25th birthday, enough enthusiasm for a fresh movie.

The new film will be heading to cinema screens in 2011, and the focus of it, according to Variety, is the origins of the characters themselves. No word yet on who will be in front of or behind the camera.

We'll keep you posted, though...

I saw the CGI TMNT film a few days ago and thoroughly enjoyed it, If a new live action film is to be made they should ditch the origins and just focus on a good story with some mutant baddies and plenty of action and spectacular stunts.

While I didn't enjoy the animated film that much, I otherwise agree with the poster above. Ditch the origins and get straight into a good story. However, I think this great news regardless. I still really enjoy a lot of the first TMNT film.

The Turtles are returning again. But they won't be CGI for the next film...
