Avatar: two very different TV spots
Simon Brew
James Cameron’s Avatar is either an action epic, or a family adventure, depending on which of these two TV spots you watch…

More promotional spots have been unleashed for James Cameron's upcoming Avatar, and they couldn't be more different
The first of the new spots very much gets across the film's action quotient, and can safely be described as half a minute of blowing shit up. The second is longer, and spends its time getting across the fact that the film is in 3D. It's also got a voiceover man who sounds like he's selling a Disney family movie ("where wonder lives, and adventure rules!").
It's fascinating putting these two spots next to each other, as one would have you thinking you're watching another Aliens movie, while the other makes out that it's the friendliest family movie in the world. Is there an identity crisis going on here, or has James Cameron managed to squeeze both into his film?
Incidentally, given that the final running time of the film hasn't been announced yet, can we predict that it's going to come close to three hours?
