The Marvel’s Avengers team has released a new update for the game ahead of its September 4 release date which targets some of the more prevalent technical issues players have encountered so far in the beta.

A large number of the updates included in this patch focus on the PC version of Marvel’s Avengers, which some players have noted felt particularly impacted by various bugs and glitches. For instance, the patch is designed to address “severe stutters/lag and irregular performance” that PC players have experienced and also implements “a variety of fixes for crashes seen during the beta.”

Interestingly, the patch notes also include fixes to the game’s Dynamic Screen Resolution issues as well as “initial improvements to our support for ultra-wide and super-ultrawide screens.” Some beta players noted that Marvel’s Avengers didn’t seem optimized to take advantage of the PC platform, and updates such as these seemingly show that the team is committed to offering additional optimization options for PC players.

Along with a host of general improvements that target different bugs, crashes, and technical shortcomings in the game, Square Enix lists “additional matchmaking improvements.” It’s not quite clear what those mean, but they seem to include fixes to both technical problems with the matchmaking system as well as logistical issues which may have impacted the quality of the game’s matchmaking services.

Even most of the patch’s “specific” fixes are related to bugs. For instance, the patch notes include a fix that would turn the screen black “when another Super Hero would use the Hulkbuster.” Another fix addresses an “issue with multiple Super Heroes spawning” while another targets a “rare issue of players losing certain gear.” There’s nothing too exciting in the patch notes so far as content updates and character alterations go, but it’s clear at this time that the team is focused on improving the beta’s technical problems.

Obviously, such beta periods are intended to expose such technical issues, but our impression at this time is that the first few months of Marvel’s Avengers‘ release window will likely be filled with similar patches. Not only are there quite a few bugs in the game that need to be addressed, but Marvel’s Avengers will likely launch in a kind of “advanced beta” state (which isn’t uncommon for live service games) that will likely go on as the game’s developers introduce new characters, content, and future significant updates which will ultimately shape the game.
