Doctor Who: The Pandorica Opens trailer

Simon Brew

It’s all closing in around Matt Smith’s Doctor: just what awaits him this weekend when The Pandorica Opens…?

Published on Jun 15, 2010

The BBC has released its promo trailer for this weekend's episode of Doctor Who, The Pandorica Opens. This is the beginning of the finale two-parter of the series, and on the basis of this clip, if you've been wondering just what the budget has been held back for this year, it looks like we're about to find out.

This final two-parter is penned by Steven Moffat - his first episodes in the series since the Weeping Angels two-parter - and the trailer has ensured that our place on the sofa come 6.40pm on Saturday is utterly assured.

Please note: the BBC has decided not to send preview discs out to online reviewers this time round, so there's no spoiler-free review for you this week. We plan to have our review of the episode live around 8.30-9pm on Saturday night.

Here's that trailer...

"and the trailer has ensured that our place on the sofa come 6.40pm on Saturday is utterly assured." Surely you mean BEHIND the sofa?

it's make or break time for the new doctor - looking back over the series, it has been a massive let down to me. There were a few gems but if it all leads up to whole load of nothing then whats the point? I'm hoping the moffmeister pulls it out of the bag!

I'm working 7-close. Damn you, bar jobs! Early morning iPlayer sesh for me then. They're throwing the kitchen sink at this one monsters-wise but it doesn't really seem all that gimmicky. I'm uncontainably excited about this.

I think this series though not perfect certainly stands up to the RTD specials or RTD series 1.Which after all this series is, in respect to Moffets tenure as show runner . Cant wait to be honest

Toy Story 3 in Edinburgh... or Doctor Who at home... GODDAMMIT, TOUGH CHOICE.

On the one hand, OMGTHISLOOKSBRILLIANTCANITBESATURDAYNOWPLZ? Yet, on the other hand, once this and The Big Bang are over, there's going to be no Matt Smith on our screens (minus Sarah Jane Adventures) until Christmas, and I genuinely don't think I can cope with that.

One of my biggest complaints concerning series 5 has been the lackluster trailers for upcoming episodes. However, I'm happy to be able to write that this trailer for "Pandorica Opens" is great! I thought Series 5, overall, has been pretty good. "11th Hour", "Time of Angels/Flesh and Stone", "Amy's Choice" and "Vincent and the Doctor" being very good or above. "Vampires In Venice" and "The Lodger" were good entertainment. "Beast Below", "Hungry Earth" and "Cold Blood" were OK, while "Victory of the Daleks" was awful. I certainly hope "Pandorica" and "Bang" join in with the excellent episodes. I still want to know why the Doctor, on first view in "11th Hour" was hanging out the door when last we saw him, after regenerating, he was standing over by the TARDIS console. Wonder if this has anything to do with the crack?

Victory of the Daleks and the Lodger have been the only real wobbles to an otherwise excellent season imo...none of RTD's seasons managed such consistency, Moffat is the man and I am confident the last two episodes will deliver in a way no RTD denoument has since parting of the ways!

I'd agree that SM's era, thus far, has been far more consistent (in a good way) than RTD's, whose quality was always just all over the place. And the reason, I'd argue, that the best episodes of RTD's era always stood out more than this last series' is simply because RTD's era had so many more middling (and, often, just awful) episodes surrounding them. Plus, I'm loving Matt Smith's Doctor, who's easily now my favourite since Tom Baker. Smith's charm and eccentricities, unlike Eccleston's gurning and Tennant's manic enthusiasm, seem both natural and unforced. Plus there's something vaguely haunted and, yes, menacing about Smith as well; like the way he smiles at Rory after he states, "I like the bit when someone says 'It's bigger on the inside.' I always look forward to that." It's both funny and, yet, slightly scary. Brilliant! It's also nice to see a return of the Doctor's tetchy temper and distracted airs. So I hope Smith stays around for a good, long while.

Is that Iain Glen's voiceover on the trailer?

Was thinking about "Pandorica Opens" today at work. (That should tell you how much I'm looking forward to this episode... ) What if that Pandorica box doesn't open to let evil things out? What if it opens to trap something - or someWHO - inside forever? Maybe Amy Pond has been manipulated throughout her life to set her up as the person who traps the Doctor within the Pandorica box! Then too, maybe it's River Song who "kills" the great man by trapping him. River? Pond? Hmmmm. Oooooh, such scary thoughts I have during work hours. Of course, I'm completely wrong about this, I'm sure.

Ahhhhhh cool, speaking as somebody who is such long time fan of Doctor Who, they could get a degree in it, I think that this season of Doctor Who has sucked with honours !!! Why Discrespective ? Well, instead of going with fun like Russell T Davis did, Steven Moffat has gone with full on seriousness and has failed because shit you can't be serious about show like Doctor Who ! That why it's so cool, is cause it can't be so stop trying to be ! But nooooo, we're not gonna do that ! This finale is going fucking get to me :-(

So... Why is the Tardis exploading? Did I miss an episode? Has its warranty expired? If Rory was erased from history wouldn't Amy be shot by the green chick? I know your not supposed to take the science too seriously but...y'know.. causalitys all over the shop!
