Geek shows and movies on UK TV in the coming week
24, Luther, and Fringe finales this week plus lots of great movies for the weekend and beyond in our UK telly round-up...
In the UK run of the last ever 24, season 8 finishes in back-to-back episodes starting at 9:00pm on Sky1, Sunday June 6th, and they’re both packed with Jack. If you’ve any interest in the planned 24 movie, witness where it might pick up as the action and adventure of this long-running series leaves the small screen forever.
Newcomers or devotees reliving the thrill of the first Dexter season will want to remember the concluding episode, Born Free happens Monday, June 7th at 1:10am on FX. Then season 2 splashes onto TV screens on Wednesday, June 9th at 10:00pm with It’s Alive (but probably not for long).
Tuesday is the day for endings, it seems. The penultimate episode of the Stargate Universe series will air on Sky1 at 8:00pm, Tuesday, June 8th. Entitled Incursion, it’s part one of the two-part season finale which concludes Tuesday, June 15th.
The closing episode of Luther airs Tuesday June 8th at 9:00pm on BBC1. While it’s been a mixed bag, week to week, we can’t leave Luther hanging without a fitting end, so we’ll see where the volatile detective takes us in this series finale.
Also wrapping up on Sky1 is Fringe, in it’s concluding half to the finale of its second season, Over There, airing on at 10:00pm Tuesday, June 8th. With a third season secured, the episode leaves us dangling and anxious for more as the parallel universes and their occupants clash.
We sometimes miss out the odd Thursday show news as we prepare these telly round-ups more than 7 days ahead of the week’s end. So, we’ll rectify that to let you know that season 2 of Burn Notice has launched on fiver, but you can still catch the opening episode, which will be repeated on Tuesday June 8th at 11:00pm. Season 4 started last night in the States, so it will be making its way to us soonish and we want to be up to speed with our favourite ex-agent.
One of our new favourite imported comedies wraps up Thursday, June 10th with the Modern Family finale, Family Portrait on Sky1 at 8:00pm. We hope there’s more to come on that family front soon.
And this week’s Doctor Who episode, Vincent And The Doctor, starts at 6:40pm on BBC1 on Saturday, June 5th. We have a spoiler-free review here and we’ll have our full spoiler-filled impressions on Saturday night.
Now, on to the films showing through the weekend and a bit beyond. As always, if we missed anything interesting, have a shout in the comments, with our thanks.
Please also note: the ordinal numbers for dates will help you scan through this simple list with your browser’s search function. Enter ’15th’ in your browser’s Find box or window to highlight and/or tab through all movies shown on Saturday. Enjoy!
