Geek shows and movies on UK TV in the coming week

Sirens starts on UK TV this week, and the last episode of Caprica turns up, too. Plus, there's a whole lot of movies to enjoy...

Movies will be doing the heavy lifting throughout the upcoming week, as we spy very little on the telly horizon in the lull before the launch of most new and returning shows.

The lone newcomer, Sirens, has a lot of potential in its cast and subject. Unless you’ve seen the shockingly funny Four Lions, you may know the voice better than the face of Kayvan Novak, recognisable to ears of fans of Fonejacker. And followers of Game Of Thrones will be instantly familiar with Richard Madden, who plays Robb Stark in that series.

The third in the trio of buddy paramedics is Rhys Thomas (Bellamy’s People) and the series, a comedy-drama, premieres Monday, June 27th at 10:00pm on Channel 4, with opening episode, Up, Horny, Down.

One short clip gives you the flavour of the co-workers interaction on the show. You can see the punchline coming from the first blip, (and we’d be surprised if paramedics really travelled in packs in the front seat), but there’s plenty of places to go in the ambulance and it’s worth a look in for its talented cast.

Then, late Monday night (early Tuesday morning) the final ever episode of Caprica, the Battlestar Galactica prequel that, for most, didn’t have enough battle in it to go the distance, brings the series to a close, if not a conclusion. Loyal watchers will want to see Apotheosis, airing first on Sky1 at a time slot that says it all, 12:35am Tuesday.

Now, on to those films showing through the weekend and a bit beyond. As always, if we missed anything interesting, have a shout in the comments, with our thanks.
