Doctor Who series 5: latest casting news

We're starting the run-up now to the new series of Doctor Who, aided considerably by the BBC's screening of the latest trailer for the show over the weekend. We've got it here in case you missed it, and rumoured return dates are sitting anywhere between Saturday 13th March and Saturday 3rd April. As one commenter pointed out, however, it's feasible that the BBC might want to get the series finished by the time the World Cup starts. If that's the case, then expect a March debut for the new series.

And also, expect James Corden to be turning up in it. He's the latest rumoured addition to the cast list for the show, with the Gavin And Stacey star reportedly overheard on the train to Cardiff learning his lines. The story was in The Sun, which, admittedly, means the pinch of salt rule applies, but this one's looking really quite likely.

Don't expect an official confirmation until much closer to the time, however...

Didn't it say Easter 2010 at the end of the new trailer? I thought it was pretty clear that they meant Saturday 3rd April...

Read the Sun report about James Cordon. Firstly, the series must be very close to wrapping if not already wrapped so is it likely anyone could be cast at this late stage. Secondly, the line "a show insider said last night..." always seems to be applied to anything a bit vague. Cordon is a bit of a "marmite" personality so I hope this IS just a last minute rumour The Sun has cooked up to fill space (albeit one that keeps the show in the public arena)...

no, it said 3rd of April. If you want to question atheistgirl or I on our eyesight, try denying it again.

James Cordon... I'm trying not to get too excited, and it worked! No excitement whatsoever. Corden will likely rank up there with whatever the hell Peter Kay "performed" as.
