Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 6: Finale Release Time and Season Recap
Wondering when the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale comes out on Disney+? Here's what you need to know heading into episode 6 of the Star Wars live action series!
This Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi article contains spoilers.
“This is the end for you, my master.”
That was the promise Anakin Skywalker made to Obi-Wan Kenobi in the final act of Revenge of the Sith, as the two dueled to the death on the volcanic planet of Mustafar. But it was only the beginning. While Obi-Wan narrowly escaped his battle against the Sith in the final chapter of the Prequel Trilogy, 10 years have now passed and the villainous Darth Vader has only grown more powerful. As the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale approaches, the Dark Lord of the Sith will be looking to finally fulfill his promise to his former master.
Because Obi-Wan Kenobi is set before A New Hope, we already have a good idea about how a few things will turn out, but that doesn’t mean the finale won’t have a few other surprises along the way. For example, what’s next for Reva now that she’s been abandoned by the Empire? What’s going to go down on Tatooine in the finale? Will Qui-Gon Jinn show up as a Force ghost?
Before we get the answers to those questions, here’s everything you need to know about the finale, including a recap of what’s happened on Obi-Wan Kenobi so far…
When Does the Obi-Wan Kenobi Finale Come Out?
Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 6 will release on Wednesday, June 22 at 3 am ET/12 am PT/8 am BST on Disney+.
Obi-Wan Kenobi Recap
Below you’ll find a recap in chronological order of all of the major things that have happened on Obi-Wan Kenobi to prepare you for the finale. But if you need to go further back in time, we also have a recap of everything that happened in the Prequel Trilogy here.
Obi-Wan’s Exile on Tatooine
Ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, the Empire reigns supreme across the galaxy and what Jedi remain are fugitives in hiding. An older, disillusioned Obi-Wan Kenobi has left his days as a hero of the Republic behind for a simpler life on the desert planet of Tatooine, where he quietly watches over little Luke Skywalker from afar, much to the chagrin of Uncle Owen, who feels that he must protect the boy from the Jedi Master after what happened to Anakin. When not working carving meat off the carcass of a desert creature, Obi-Wan spends his time in a dank cave he’s turned into his depressing little home. At night, he tries to call out to Qui-Gon Jinn with the Force, waiting for a sign of hope or some kind of direction from his former master.
But the Force speaks in mysterious ways. When the Empire’s Jedi hunters, known as the Inquisitors, arrive on the planet to capture and kill a fugitive Jedi Knight named Nari, Obi-Wan is slowly thrust back into the galactic affairs he’d sworn off in order to protect Luke. While he refuses to help Nari when the runaway Jedi searches him out, more trouble is waiting on the Jedi Master’s doorstep.
Princess Leia Is Kidnapped
Cut to Alderaan, where a 10-year-old Princess Leia prefers to play in the woods outside the palace with her little droid companion Lola than attend stuffy parties. It’s during one of these adventures beyond the walls of her home that Leia is kidnapped by a band of mercenaries. Because Leia isn’t actually a daughter of Alderaan but the child of Anakin Skywalker — a truth still hidden from Darth Vader and the Empire at this point — a desperate Bail Organa has no choice but to go find Obi-Wan, the only other person (besides Yoda) who knows who the princess really is.
At first, Obi-Wan refuses, saying he’s not the great hero he once was, but as the Grand Inquisitor remarks in an earlier scene, the Jedi can’t help who they are. In fact, this is what one particularly driven Inquisitor named Reva is banking on. You see, she has figured out Bail’s ties to the Jedi, and orchestrated the kidnapping in order to draw Obi-Wan back out into the open so that she can hunt him. Reva’s so determined to catch Obi-Wan for Darth Vader, she’ll even defy her boss, the Grand Inquisitor, to do it.
Ultimately, her plan works. Obi-Wan finally agrees to rescue Leia, but it won’t be easy.
Obi-Wan Goes on a Rescue Mission to Daiyu
Bail has received intel that Leia is being held hostage by a gang on the planet Daiyu, so Obi-Wan travels there on a civilian transport, hoping to make his way through the city, which is teeming with Imperial security forces, without being noticed (despite the fact that he’s wearing the most Jedi-looking outfit imaginable). While trying to find a way into the gang’s hideout, Obi-Wan meets a criminal named Haja, who pretends he’s a Jedi in order to con desperate people out of money. Obi-Wan convinces Haja to lead him to the bunker where the gang is hiding out with Leia.
Once inside, Obi-Wan is able to take down the mercenaries and rescue Leia, but not without getting the attention of Reva and a whole planet’s worth of bounty hunters and scum happy to collect the Jedi’s head for a quick buck. This leads to a shoot out on the rooftops that Obi-Wan and Leia only narrowly escape, and with the help of Haja, the duo head for a cargo ship that will take them to a safe place away from Daiyu.
But before they can make a clean escape, Reva arrives…
Reva “Kills” the Grand Inquisitor and Reveals the Truth About Anakin Skywalker
The Grand Inquisitor is livid that Reva has secretly schemed to capture Obi-Wan behind his back, despite his instructions to abandon her foolish search, and that she’s kidnapped the daughter of an Imperial senator to do it. But now that she has located the old Jedi, the Grand Inquisitor decides he’ll be the one to bring the prize to Vader, ordering Reva to stand down.
Reva isn’t about to let the Grand Inquisitor take credit for her plan, though. So she ignites her lightsaber and thrusts the blade through the Inquisitor’s abdomen, a “killing blow” that removes him from the board so that she can go back to hunting Obi-Wan, who just happens to be watching all of this go down from behind some crates.
Obi-Wan and Leia escape Daiyu by the skin of their teeth, but not before Reva shares a dark truth about Anakin Skywalker to his former master: the fallen Jedi is still alive and has now transformed into the dreaded Darth Vader. Haunted by this revelation, Obi-Wan reaches out with the Force to Anakin, who in turn wakes up from his slumber in his castle on Mustafar, ready to hunt down his master once and for all.
Tala Durith and the Path
The cargo shuttle auto-pilots itself to an Imperial mining planet called Mapuzo. It’s here that Haja has told Obi-Wan that they’ll meet a contact who can smuggle them to safety. But when their mysterious contact doesn’t show up to the rendezvous point, they’re forced to hitch a ride with a “friendly” local who is headed toward a space port where Obi-Wan and Leia (who are using fake names) can find transport off this Empire-controlled rock. Unfortunately, this Good Samaritan is on to Obi-Wan and Leia and drives them instead to an Imperial checkpoint so that stormtroopers can check them out.
Cover blown, Obi-Wan is forced to fight, taking down several stormtroopers with his blaster (he’s a hell of a shot apparently), but the duo are eventually surrounded. Just when it seems their journey has come to an end, the Imperial officer leading the troopers shoots down her men, and reveals herself to be Haja’s secret contact. Her name is Tala Durith, a former Imperial loyalist who became disillusioned with the Empire after witnessing an atrocity committed by the Inquisitors. Now she works as a double agent, helping a rebel cell known as the Path, which smuggles Force-sensitive children and Jedi fugitives to safety before the Empire can find them. Obi-Wan learns that several Jedi from the days of the Republic are still alive and working with the Path, a sign that there’s still hope for the light side.
But all hope is about to be snuffed out on Mapuzo…
Enter Darth Vader
The Inquisitors arrive on the planet, and they’re not alone. Darth Vader walks through the streets of a small town, executing innocents to draw out Obi-Wan. The Jedi Master instructs Leia to go with Tala through a secret passage that will take them to a ship, while he distracts Vader.
Finally, the moment you’ve been waiting for has come: Obi-Wan faces Vader, but it’s not exactly an even fight. In fact, Vader absolutely demolishes his former master, almost burning him alive before Tala shows up at the last second to save his neck. But where’s Leia?
Reva Kidnaps Leia Again and Takes Her to the Fortress
While Tala rushes to save Obi-Wan back in town, Leia continues through the secret tunnel on her own. But when she reaches the ship platform, it’s not Tala’s pilot waiting for her but Reva. The Inquisitor takes Leia back to Fortress Inquisitorius, the faction’s command center on the Mustafar moon of Nur. Reva interrogates Leia, trying to manipulate her into giving up the location of the Path hideout where Tala and the rebels are hiding Obi-Wan. But the princess gives her nothing. Frustrated with Leia, Reva sends her to a torture chamber where she’ll force the answers out of the little brat.
Obi-Wan and Tala Stage Another Daring Rescue Mission in Imperial Territory
Tala and an injured Obi-Wan reach the planet Jabiim, where they make contact with another Path agent named Roken. After spending some time inside a bacta tank, Obi-Wan and Tala head to the Fortress, planning to sneak in and rescue Leia. Using her Imperial credentials, Tala is able to unlock an underwater passage into the Fortress for Obi-Wan. The Jedi sneaks his way into the base, and eventually comes upon a grotesque Inquisitor trophy room, where the bodies of murdered Jedi are displayed in glass cases. It’s the dark fate awaiting Obi-Wan if he doesn’t get out of the Fortress alive.
The Jedi Master finds and frees Leia, fighting his way through ranks of stormtroopers, while Tala distracts Reva with a false report about the location of the Path. Eventually, both Obi-Wan and Tala reunite and cut a path to an Imperial ship. But before they can board a shuttle, Reva catches up with them. Surrounded by every Imperial agent on the base, it seems that this is the end of the line for all of our heroes, but then two T-47 airspeeders show up to save the day, shooting down stormtroopers while Obi-Wan, Tala, and Leia make a run for it. The trio board one of the fighters and escape Reva once more.
Reva Is Named Grand Inquisitor and Her Past Revealed
When Vader arrives, he’s most displeased that Reva has allowed their prey to escape. But before Vader can Force choke the Inquisitor to death, she reveals that she planted a tracker on Leia’s little droid while interrogating the princess. This will allow the Empire not only to follow Obi-Wan and Leia wherever they go but to learn the location of the Path safe house. Vader spares her and even commends her efforts, finally promoting her to the position of Grand Inquisitor, which is what she’s wanted from the very beginning (but the Empire doesn’t know she killed her predecessor on Daiyu to get it).
Reva’s goal isn’t just to become the best of the Inquisitors and impress her Sith bosses, though. We learn that Reva actually wanted to gain favor with Darth Vader in order to get close enough to kill him — the Inquisitor has actually been hunting Vader the entire time, using Obi-Wan to lure him into a trap!
It turns out that before she joined the Inquisitorius, Reva was a youngling learning the ways of the Force in the Jedi Temple. But on the night of Order 66, Anakin led clone troopers into the temple and executed all of the Jedi in sight, including Reva’s fellow younglings, the only family she ever had. Reva has spent the last decade rising through the ranks of the Empire in order to get her revenge.
Face off on Jabiim and the Grand Inquisitor Resurrected
Now with the powers of the Grand Inquisitor, Reva leads a small Imperial invasion force to Jabiim. Meanwhile, a hacked Lola locks the Path base’s blast doors, preventing the rebel cell and the refugees they’re smuggling from flying away when the Empire arrives. Trapped with nowhere to go, the Path and Obi-Wan must fight to stay alive.
Confronting Reva, Obi-Wan senses her true intentions, and convinces her to instead stage a trap for Vader, luring the Dark Lord of the Sith to Jabiim, just as the rebels make their escape (thanks to Leia figuring out that Lola had been hacked and in the process unlocking those pesky blast doors). While Vader is distracted with Obi-Wan, Reva tries to stab him in the back, both figuratively and literally. But Vader stops her in her tracks, disarming her quite easily, and cutting her down with her own lightsaber. He admits that he knew of Reva’s intentions the whole time and was simply using her to hunt down Kenobi.
It’s then that the real Grand Inquisitor re-enters the scene, revealing that he was playing dead while Reva executed her plan. Now, that they have Kenobi and the Path in their sights, they no longer have any use for Reva and leave her to die from her wounds. But this isn’t the end for her…
Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader (and Reva)
The end of episode 5 sets up two major fights in the Obi-Wan Kenobi finale. Although Obi-Wan and the rebels are able to escape Jabiim, the ship’s hyperdrive is damaged, and the Empire is on their tail and gaining on them. That means that wherever Obi-Wan and Leia are headed, Vader will be able to follow, setting up a final confrontation between master and apprentice for the fate of the galaxy.
Meanwhile, back on the abandoned Path base, an injured Reva discovers Obi-Wan’s comlink, which a returning Haja dropped during the evacuation. On the comlink is a message from Bail referencing not only the princess but also a child Obi-Wan needs to protect on Tatooine. The final shot of episode 5 strongly suggests that Reva will next head to the desert planet to find Luke.
So, how will Obi-Wan escape the clutches of Darth Vader, return Leia to Alderaan, and save Luke from Reva? We have some theories here.
