Horror Streaming Service Shudder Offers 30 Day Free Trial

With much of the world self-isolating and most cinemas closed, streaming services are becoming increasingly the focus of where people will access home entertainment. Giants like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu are releasing new content all the time but horror specialist channel Shudder has decided to keep gore hounds entertained while stuck in their homes by extending their standard 7 day free trial period to 30 days if you use the promo code SHUTIN.

The code works for new members in the US, Canada, UK, and Ireland signing up via Shudder.com

Shudder made the announcement via social media and said it would also be posting daily recommendations on Twitter with the #ShudderShutIn hashtag. In the US there’s also a ‘Shut In’ collection featuring people trapped, including titles like Escape From New York and Audition, should you wish to be comforted by the thought “at least I’m not locked in with the Kiri Kiri Kiri lady.”

Also for US viewers, tonight at 9pm EST via Shudder TV – which is like the equivalent of scheduled TV, so you can’t pause or rewind – there’ll be a watch along of Satanic Panic with director Chelsea Stardust and star Hayley Griffith on twitter.

Satanic Panic sees pizza delivery girl Sam (Griffith) show up at her final drop off of the night only to discover it’s a group of high end satanists who just happen to be on the hunt for a sacrifice. The movie screened at FrightFest in August 2019 and it’s based on a screenplay by author Grady Hendrix.

Other highlights currently on the service include Swedish vampire coming of age film Let The Right One In, Wes Craven classic The Hills Have Eyes, seminal J-horror Ring, and Brandon Cronenberg body horror Antiviral. And that’s just scratching the surface. The service also has a range of series available including Shudder originals Creepshow and The Dead Lands, as well as a selection of original horror podcasts.

Horror can be a great shared social experience, so finding ways to share that while we’re all stuck inside could be a valuable resource in the coming weeks. Many people are also worrying about finances going forward so access to a whole range of horror movies and shows that you can watch along with your friends without having to pay can be a really nice escape.

Head to Shudder.com and use the code SHUTIN to redeem your free trial. You have to click the “7 days free trial” button, create an account (email and password), then on page two underneath where it wants you to put in payment details (you will have to remember to cancel after a month if you don’t want a subscription – put a note in your diary!) there’s a drop down which says “promocode.” Type SHUTIN here and press Apply and the page will update to show 30 days. You can apply this code before putting in any payment details.
