Geek shows and movies on UK TV in the coming week

A World Of Warcraft documentary leads the geeky goodness on the telly in the next week. Lots of good movies too...

Right about now, with nary a funk soul brother in sight, the TV landscape is starting to sweep itself clean for the holidays, shoving the old shows under the beds and and saving the best linens and dinnerware for when the holiday guests arrive.

We’re approaching those couple-few weeks where your boxset purchases prove to be money well spent as few new series will be rearing their heads for fear of competing with the holiday specials or airing in households of the otherwise occupied.

That’s not to say there’s nothing to watch, though.

If you’re lucky enough to have access to the Current TV channel (Sky channel 183 or Virgin channel 155) your Monday night, November 23rd at 10:00pm is spoken for with World Of Warcraft Stole My Life: Second Skin. This documentary ventures into the sphere of pixelised elves, warlocks and warriors, or rather, the humans pushing them about and sending them forth with mice and key combos. The MMORPG has a huge amount of fans and possibly more than its fair share of addicts. It’s these compulsives who’ll tell their stories, and whether you’re more likely to relate or ridicule, it’s sure to make for a fascinating watch.

On the non-game plane, those of us who followed and commented on Mark Oakley’s reviews of the latest series of Peep Show pretty much agreed it was one of the finest runs of half a dozen episodes. If you missed any (ar all) of the show’s sixth series you can peek in again on a marathon run of back-to-back eps on Saturday, 21st November starting at 9:20pm on E4 (and an hour later on E4+1).

At the same time, big sister Channel 4’s week of 3D progamming winds up with the only thing worth a look (we’ll skip JLS and Hannah Montana in no-D and 3D, thanks muchly) and that’s a Friday The 13th film (in our list below) and The Greatest Ever 3D Moments in film and TV, airing Saturday 21 November at 9:20pm. You’ll need the special specs (the blue and amber sort) if you’re curious as to what the fuss is about or want to fathom why this trend seems to re-emerge like toy fads. Is 3D the pet rock of the 2000s or will it fly like the Frisbee?

And now, on to the films airing over the weekend and a bit beyond…

Please also note: the ordinal numbers for dates will help you scan through this simple list with your browser’s search function. Enter ’21st’ in your browser’s Find box or window to highlight and/or tab through all movies shown on Saturday. Enjoy!
