Geek shows and movies on UK TV in the coming week
Have I Got News For You is back, Breaking Bad ends in the UK for now, and The Walking Dead walk again in the UK. Plus films! Lots of them!
The long running comedy panel series, Have I Got News For You, which began in 1990, returns for its forty-first series of goes at politicians and the more bizarre aspects of news and life tonight, Friday, April 8th at 9:00pm on BBC1. Team captains Ian Hislop and Paul Merton return to their chairs and the premiering guest host is the cheery Jack Dee, in the first of nine episodes in this latest series.
Also tonight, Friday, April 8th, but a little later at 11:25pm on 5USA, is the series 2 finale of the excellent Breaking Bad. We haven’t heard when series 3 might reach us, but if you have any plans to watch when it does, you’ll want to be sure to catch this most pivotal and nearly paralyzing season final, ABQ, that includes momentous consequences for Walter and Jesse’s futures. It’s riveting stuff that finally explains those haunting pool scenes at the season’s opening.
The Walking Dead are a tenacious bunch. The zombie series returns again, on Sunday, April 10th at 10:00pm, this time on Channel 5, with the premiering episode Days Gone Bye. We covered all of the impressive series here and another chance to catch the attention of a wider audience on a new channel is justified in this case. We’ve been ready for a second series since the first season’s first six-episode visit. You may have forgotten the cast’s names and faces by now, so long has Stargate Universe been off our screens. But the sci-fi series returns to its second season on Monday, April 11th at 8:00pm on Sky1 in Deliverance. The series, sadly, won’t live on past the remaining season 2 episodes, but we thought there was enough quality storytelling there to bear with the crew of Destiny and see it out with what will, hopefully, be a satisfying conclusion to an entertaining show.
Now, on to those films showing through the weekend and a bit beyond. Donnie Darko airs uninterrupted on BBC1 at midnight tonight, Friday April 14th, and two Jack Ryan tales based on Tom Clancy books feature this week with Clear And Present Danger and The Hunt For Red October. And sticking with red, Hellboy has a showing on Sunday.
As always, if we missed anything interesting, have a shout in the comments, with our thanks.
