There’s a new Predator game in development, and it looks surprisingly similar to the failed game from the Left 4 Dead team, Evolve. Predator: Hunting Grounds is about what you’d expect if you’re at all familiar with Evolve and the Predator franchise. If you don’t fall into that camp, then know that it’s a game where a team of players controls a squad of soldiers (the exact size of the soldier team hasn’t been revealed) as they work their way through the jungle and attempt to kill another player controller the Predator who is hunting them down.
Based on other entries into this subgenre, you can bet that the soldiers will be heavily armed but will likely be fairly vulnerable. The Predator, meanwhile, will certainly come to the fight with his array of high-tech tools, but will somehow need to find a way to take out a team of soldiers without being mowed down in the process. After all, he bleeds and therefore can be killed.
In an interesting twist, it sounds like the team of soldiers will have to complete other objectives that include recovering items and taking out other bad guys. This should help make things a bit easier on the Predator player who won’t have to contend with a group of soldiers standing in a circle just waiting to kill him.
Actually, we’d be surprised if this game didn’t take a few cues from Dead by Daylight. That title’s horror elements have helped it outlive the often monotonous Evolve. While this group of soldiers won’t be quite as helpless as the survivors in Dead by Daylight, this setup lends itself better to a scenario where the soldiers will need to emphasize teamwork and strategy rather than just eventually wearing down the opposition (again, like in Evolve).
