Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

The Rock is set to, er, do his bit for Jules Verne, as it looks like he’s returning for upcoming sequel, Journey 3…

When you put Michael Caine on the back of a giant wasp, and get The Rock doing some peck-popping work, you do suspect you’ll get some box office interest. Yet Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the sequel to the 3D Brendan Fraser vehicle Journey To The Center Of The Earth, proved to be a solid hit earlier in this year. In fact, a bigger hit than many were expecting.

So much so, in fact, that the franchise is set to extend by another feature. Director Brad Peyton has signed up for the third film, having directed the second, and writers Brian and Mark Gunn have been hired to pen a script.

Furthermore, it looks like The Rock will be back, too.

Dwayne Johnson has entered negotiations for the new film, according to The Wrap, and he’s set to team up with Josh Hutcherson again for it. There’s no clue yet as to when to expect Journey 3, nor any idea of the pun that will form the title. But we suspect that this one will come together really rather quickly.
