Deathloop: Release Date, Trailer, Gameplay, and News

Deathloop sees two assassins compete in a battle for time. Check out this new PS5 games!

Arkane Studios, the team behind the brilliant Dishonored franchise and the pretty good Prey, have revealed that their next project is a strange title called Deathloop.

DEATHLOOP” transports players to the lawless island of Blackreef in an eternal struggle between two extraordinary assassins,” reads the official description of the game. “Explore stunning environments and meticulously designed levels in an immersive gameplay experience that lets you approach every situation any way you like. Hunt down targets all over the island in an effort to put an end to the cycle once and for all, and remember, if at first you don’t succeed… die, die again.”

Truth be told, we don’t really know much about this game beyond what we’ve seen in the trailers and what’s mentioned in the description above. However, it certainly does seem like the manipulation of time is going to play a big part in this experience. References to the “cycle” have left some with the impression that it might be a Groundhog Day-like experience, while the idea of competing assassins and time travel triggers memories of Looper.

“As Colt, players are trapped in a time loop on the enigmatic island of Blackreef, doomed to repeat the same day for eternity,” Bethesda in a press release. “The only chance for escape is to break the loop by assassinating eight key targets before the day resets. However, lurking in the shadows is rival assassin Julianna, equipped with her own equally powerful abilities and weapons, on a mission to protect the loop by assassinating Colt, and restarting the cycle. “

This being the studio responsible for Dishonored, it’s really no surprise that Deathloop is going to offer a good amount of freedom in terms of how you approach each objective. What’s less clear is how the game’s plot will factor into that idea. If pressed to guess, we’ll say that it’s going to be like Dishonored 2, which allowed you to play as one of two different characters with slightly different experiences while ultimately trying to kill the other.

Here’s everything else you need to know about the game:

Deathloop Release Date

Deathloop is scheduled to release in Holiday 2020. The game is coming exclusively to the PlayStation 5, which is a bit surprising for a Bethesda release. It’s possible that the game will release on the Xbox Series X at a later date.

Deathloop Trailer

Arkane brought the first gameplay trailer for Deathloop to the PS5 reveal event in June 2020. It gives you a better idea of how the combat works and how the time loop is going to mess with players throughout the experience. Watch the gameplay footage below:
