Daredevil Season 3 Episode 7
In the wake of the attack committed last episode, this one focuses almost solely on the fallout and how it affects our main characters. And rightly so, because this sort of massacre isn’t something that should be shrugged off.
Karen has really stepped into her own this season, and Deborah Ann Woll’s virtuoso crying act gets some real work. Do anyone else’s eyes sting just looking at her post-weeping face? The scene where she called her family at the end of the episode made me feel for her more than anyone on this show, and part of me wonders – is she upset because she lost her job, or because she sold out Matt?
Working backwards from that, the scene where Mitch confronted Karen was equally fantastic. I totally bought his twist from grim determination to righteous fury, directed at anyone who’d get in the way of his investigation and his search for justice on Fisk. If I was Karen, I’d probably have cracked in the face of that.

It’s also interesting how Nadeem is developing. I was sure he’d end up corrupted and ultimately tricked into doing something horrible by Fisk, but it seems more and more like he’s going to realise Matt’s on his side, and as a result he’s probably going to die horribly (or worse, his family will). I’m enjoying having this character with no precedence from the comics in the story – it does, at least, keep my guessing.
Foggy and Marci, meanwhile, continue their run of being the only functioning relationship on television. You all know I love Foggy and I love that he’s about to get something to do that will help the fight against Fisk. Please, give us a Foggy Nelson speech on the level that the character deserves. Part of me still believes he might actually become DA.
Fisk, of course, is revelling in his control of everyone. We learn in this episode that Dex’s Daredevil suit was a bespoke original, which leads us back to occasional tailor to Matt Murdock, Melvin Potter, who has his redemptive arc cut brutally short by Fisk’s meddling. I enjoyed the FBI action scene, though you have to sort of feel bad for these FBI guys who were just doing their actual job. And hey, Melvin got to use the circular sawblades teased when he appeared in season one (which are the comics Gladiator’s signature weapons).

Still, with Nadeem and Matt on the same side now, it feels at this point as though the tide is turning against Fisk. It’s still way too early in the season for him to actually get caught, which makes me wonder who’s about to die horribly at the hands of Bullseye. Speaking of which, I guess we’ll be catching up with Dex next episode…
