Geek shows and movies on UK TV in the coming week

The UK gets the world exclusive first showing of the latest Clone Wars, Stargate Universe and V kick off in the UK, and there's a whole lot of movies too...

It seems the healthy telly flow of Easter was strong enough to spill over into another week, as there’s lots worth your tuning in to over the next seven days.

Tomorrow, Saturday April 10th is another of those Channel 4 100 countdowns. We’re not usually intrigued, but this time it’s The 100 Greatest Stand Ups 2010, which, of all countdown lists, has to have a chuckle or two tucked away between ad breaks. It starts at 9:00pm.

Tuesday, April 13th sees the return and launch of two shows for sci-fi fans. At 8:00pm on Sky1, Stargate Universe, starring Robert Carlyle, resumes its trek after a long pit stop.

Then at 10:00pm on the SciFi channel, the revamped, revised, but virtually the same series, V lands at 10:00pm. If you’ve never seen the original 1980s series, you can watch through fresh human eyes, but it’s also tempting to old V friends to see what a new version looks like.

Also on the SciFi channel, on Wednesday, April 14th, a really good comic book-based action show kicks off in a pilot followed by another episode, called Rewind. It’s Human Target, the story of Christopher Chance and his small team who go to great – and personal – lengths to protect their clients. It stars Mark Valley, with at least one well choreographed fight scene in every episode guaranteed, as well as one of the most interesting TV characters on telly in Jackie Earle Haley’s Guerrero. We like it. A lot.

At the same time, over on BBC4, is the Mad Men season 3 finale entitled Shut The Door, Have A Seat. The preceeding episode, The Grown-Ups, is airing on Sunday, the 11th at 11:00pm and Monday, the 12th at 2:45am on BBC4 and the ep before that, The Gypsy And The Hobo, shows on BBC2 Tuesday at 11:20pm. Thank goodness for iPlayer, eh?

All that’s in addition to Fridays’Ashes To Ashes, at 9pm, Saturday’s Doctor Who, 6:15pm, both BBC1, new episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars on Sky Premiere at 6pm Fridays, and K-9 for the youngest geeks and those young at heart on Disney XD, weekends at 4pm. (Special thanks go out to Cameron for the details on those last two shows to add to your family viewing schedules.)

Now, on to the films showing through the weekend and a bit beyond. As always, if we missed anything interesting, have a shout in the comments, with our thanks.
