First Adventure Time: Distant Lands Special Gets HBO Max Premiere Date

Adventure Time will return, moving from Cartoon Network to HBO Max for four new hour-long specials.

Just as a character in another beloved WarnerMedia brand could tell you: nothing ever ends. Thankfully that applies to the colorful and lovely Cartoon Network animated series Adventure Time as well.

HBO Max is bringing the recently concluded show back for four hour-long specials titled Adventure Time: Distant Lands that will premiere on the HBO Max streaming service exclusively. Finn, Jake, and many of the other inhabitants of the Land of Ooo will find their way to the Distant Lands for the new short series.

“The enchanted world of Adventure Time has mesmerized viewers and critics alike as Finn and Jake right wrongs and battle evil,” Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max, said in a statement. “The addition of these specials to the HBO Max kids and family programming lineup is sure to make kids everywhere say ‘Slam-bam-in-a-can!’”

The first special, BMO, is set to premiere on Thursday, June 25. The next Obsidian, will follow later in 2020. The other two, Wizard City and Together Again are awaiting an estimated release window. HBO Max provided plot descriptions for all four hour-long specials. They are as follows:

– BMO follows the lovable little robot from Adventure Time. When there’s a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, there’s only one hero to call, and it’s probably not BMO. Except that this time it is.

– Obsidian features Marceline & Princess Bubblegum as they journey to the imposing, beautiful Glass Kingdom—and deep into their tumultuous past—to prevent an earthshaking catastrophe.

– Wizard City follows Peppermint Butler, starting over at the beginning, as just another inexperienced Wizard School student. When mysterious events at the campus cast suspicion on Pep, and his checkered past, can he master the mystic arts in time to prove his innocence?

– Together Again brings Finn and Jake together again, to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives.

Created by Pendelton Ward, Adventure Time premiered in 2010 and has long been one of Cartoon Network’s most successful and beloved properties. The show has a big heart, sharp mind, and surprisingly deep mythology surrounding its Land of Ooo. The main series concluded after its 10th season in 2018. There had been whispers of a film continuation for the series though now it seems like HBO Max has essentially ordered four of them!

Wow-chow-chow! indeed.
