The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners – Release Date and Trailer for New VR Title

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners looks to be the first notable Walking Dead game in a long time.

Skydance Interactive has partnered with Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment to develop a VR Walking Dead game called The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners.

Before you look away at the thought of another Walking Dead game (and a VR title to boot), consider that there are a couple of interesting things about this title that set it apart from other less-than-spectacular recent Walking Dead titles.

First off, while this may look like another zombie VR shooter, but it turns out that this is more than an action game. Based on some early previews of the title, it actually appears that this is closer to a survival horror game with an emphasis on the survival aspect. You’ll have to manage resources, craft items, and even utilize a variety of combat techniques in order to effectively work your way through the zombie hordes. This really does remind us of Resident Evil 7 in that it feels like more than just a VR gimmick.

There’s also a fascinating (especially for VR games) choice-system that will force you to occasionally make some difficult decisions. It’s not clear what the extent of this system is, but spoilery examples provided so far suggest that it’s going to add a surprisingly interesting RPG element to the game that certainly elevates it above your average VR shooter.

The other thing worth noting about this game is the involvement of Skybound who will seemingly look to define the future of The Walking Dead video games in the post-Telltale Games era. Skybound assisted with the development of the last The Walking Dead episode after Telltale went under, but this is the first Walking Dead game since the glory days of that series that feels like it might actually try to justice to the Walking Dead franchise at its best

We’ll see if that’s what happens when The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners releases for PC VR platforms on January 23, 2020.
