Is Fall Guys Releasing on Xbox One, Switch, and Mobile?

Fall Guys is the party game sensation of 2020, but it's currently only available on PC and PS4. Could it be making its way to the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile, too? Will it be cross-platform?

In a year ravaged by a pandemic, economic disaster, earthquakes, power outages, and murder hornets, humanity was desperately in need of a respite, something to reintroduce a little happiness into our lives. Enter Fall Guys, the new party game from developer Mediatonic and publisher Devolver Digital.

Fall Guys seems purposefully built to forever dominate Twitch streams, YouTube Let’s Plays, and social media, mainly because it offers up enough calamitous humor and joy that it’s even fun to watch other players bumble their way towards the finish,” wrote our reviewer in his analysis of the game and he couldn’t be more right.

Since the game’s launch, Fall Guys has become the most-watched game on Twitch, beating AAA blockbusters like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Valorant, and Grand Theft Auto V, a feat that couldn’t have seemed more impossible before launch. But with Fall Guys currently the third most popular game on Steam behind only Valve’s own Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2, it’s safe to say Mediatonic’s little project is indie darling of 2020. Even outside brands are begging Mediatonic for a chance to appear in the game through crossover skins!

Fall Guys has grown so popular so quickly that the game’s servers have struggled to keep up with the number of players trying to load into a match. That said, if you’ve had the pleasure of racing through the game’s zany courses, jumping across platforms while avoiding cannons shooting giant fruit at your little bean-shaped avatar, you know why this game is already loved by so many. That is, of course, if you’re one of the lucky gamers who own a PC or PlayStation 4.

Currently, Fall Guys is only available on those two platforms, meaning Xbox One and Nintendo Switch players have been left waiting for a chance to join in on the fun. And those who were hoping the little indie might make its way to mobile devices (we think it’s a perfect it, too) seem to be even more out of luck as Mediatonic hasn’t announced any plans for a port to phones or tablets.

There’s a tiny glimmer of hope for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch owners, though.

Mediatonic recently wrote in a post on its support page that it would “love to bring the game to other platforms further down the line” and asked fans to “please let us know on Twitter and Discord which platforms you’d like us to release on next – we’d love to see how much demand there is!”

With demand so high already, it wouldn’t be surprising at all if Mediatonic announced Xbox One and Nintendo Switch ports sooner rather than later. That said, the developer will likely focus on getting its PC and PS4 servers working first before expanding to other platforms.

But if the game does roll out to all current-gen platforms (and maybe even mobile), the next question will be whether Fall Guys will get a cross-platform update? With so many other popular multiplayer games now offering cross-play across Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, it would be surprising if Fall Guys didn’t eventually tear down the walls that separate its player base on different platforms.

Mediatonic hasn’t announced any next-gen plans for the game, either. Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 players may have to wait a while for Fall Guys, too.
