Star Wars: Animatronic Baby Yoda Toy Is Here to Steal Your Heart

If the release of this Baby Yoda toy is how the robot uprising begins, we are here for it.

While the first season of The Mandalorian wrapped up at the end of last year, the buzz over the Disney+ series hasn’t died down one bit. In fact, fans are as obsessed with Baby Yoda today as they were when he made his Star Wars debut back in November.

Case in point, Toy Fair. This weekend is the annual showcase of the toy industry’s greatest playthings, games, and collectibles that will be released over the course of the next year. Even though the event doesn’t get officially underway until Saturday, a clear Toy Fair winner has already been crowned: Hasbro’s Animatronic Baby Yoda.

Now available for pre-order, this swoon-worthy Baby Yoda collectible will retail for $59.99 and is expected to be released by Fall 2020. Yes, we know that his official name is The Child, but no one is calling The Mandalorian‘s breakout character that. (Mainly because “Baby Yoda” is way more catchy, and we are too busy oohing and ahhing over him to truly care). The thought of having an animatronic replica of The Child is basically breaking our minds at this point.

Even though pop culture mainstays like the Terminator films to Five Night at Freddy’s warn us that automatons, and toys in general, can be dangers to society, there’s little doubt that the Animatronic Baby Yoda will break sales records. (Westworld-ian trappings or not, it’s easy to envision this toy becoming the next Cabbage Patch Kids/Tickle Me Elmo phenomenon).

So what can fans expect from the new toy? There are enough features here to tide anyone over until Baby Yoda is back on our TV screens. From the Hasbro press release:

He may look like “Baby Yoda,” but this lovable creature is called The Child – and now fans can become his protector. Touching the top of The Child’s head activates over 25 sound and motion combinations, including happy and excited sounds, giggles, and babbles, and the toy’s head moves up and down, the ears move back and forth, and the eyes open and close.

The Child comes complete with a removable replica of Mando’s iconic necklace, proving that this little guy has both style and substance. Still not convinced? Well, let Hasbro win you over with a video showing The Child in action. Prepare yourself, this thing is, as they say, totes adorbs:

Apparently chickie nug nugs and choccy milk aren’t included, but we’ll allow it as this is the must-buyiest must-buy we’ve come across in a very long time. It’s not the only new piece of Baby Yoda merch coming soon either…

This year, Hasbro will also be releasing The Mandalorian-branded versions of the classic board games Trouble and Operation. The Star Wars makeover of these childhood stalwarts will introduce a new generation to the wonders of tabletop gaming. 2020 is shaping up to be a garbage fire of galactic proportions, but at least we have Baby Yoda to bring some joy and wonder to our lives.
