Doctor Who specials: latest news round up

Simon Brew

A few new titbits have been popping up about the currently-in-production three remaining Doctor Who specials.

Published on Jun 4, 2009

BE WARNED: THERE ARE A COUPLE OF SPOILERS COMING UP. NOT MAJOR ONES, BUT IF YOU LIKE YOUR EPISODES OF DOCTOR WHO SERVED COLD, YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THEM...

Firstly, as you probably know already, the first of the remaining special episodes, The Water Of Mars, is currently scheduled for broadcast in November. Then the two remaining episodes, which will mark David Tennant's departure from the show, will be broadcast on Christmas Day and New Years' Day (although that's still subject to official confirmation). We might just have to stay sober at Yuletide, at this rate.

HERE COMES THE SPOILER-Y STUFF

Meanwhile, yesterday it was reported that there are to be three weddings in the final episodes of Tennant's reign. Apparently, we'll be seeing Rose again in the parallel universe that's been sealed off permanently and forever and we've got no chance of therefore seeing her again. She'll apparently be marrying the clone Doctor that we saw in Journey's End. Meanwhile, Mickey Smith, Rose's ex, is apparently marrying Martha Jones. And then Sarah Jane is getting hitched too, although we'll be seeing that apparently in The Sarah Jane Adventures. Bringing back lots of characters and tying them together in one big knot? You'd never guess who writes this stuff!

In further casting news, Timothy Dalton has been added to the line up, to play a villain, while June Whitfield is now definitely on board too. Some reports are suggesting that the final special will be called 'Beautiful Chaos', but again, that's heresay thus far.

SPOILERS END

And in some sad news, Outpost Gallifrey, arguably the finest Doctor Who website on the planet, and home to certainly the liveliest forum, will be shutting its doors. The site has been running for 13 years, and its founder, Shaun Lyon, has decided to call it a day. Thanks for everything there, Shaun, and all the best for the future.

Do you actually check ANY of your facts before putting these things up? In reverse order... "Beautiful Chaos" is the name of a DW novel, there's not the slightest shred of proof that Timothy Dalton is appearing, the first episode of "Children Of Earth" explains Martha's absence by having her on her honeymoon with Tom Milligan (you know, the man she was actually engaged to) and I was the person who made up the Rose marrying Doctor 10.5 story to see if a Tabloid would print it.

stcoop, you're causing chaos all over the internet! You never know, at this rate you could become an enemy of the doctor yourself!

It's kind of ridiculous that Mickey would end up with Martha. I think that bit of news is bogus. It comes from a tabloid site not known for it's accuracy. When I first heard it, I thought someone in the office was making things up. Mickey and Martha could not possibly end up together as there's no build up to it. Last we saw Martha, she was already engaged to Doctor Tom Millegan. If she's ever going to get married, it's going to be to him. Mickey? pfft. Whoever came up with that is on crack. Another stab at the credibility of the news is it completely misses Donna's wedding, evidence of which we've already seen in photos shot on set.

What was it the eighth Doctor once said? "I love humans...always seeing patterns in things that aren't there."

stcoop: Er, we're not saying they're facts; this is a round-up of the current titbits doing the round. The article deliberately uses the word 'apparently' for that reason :-)

Well, firstly... I have heard quite a few comments claiming that Rose is returning. Some sites have said that the doctor 'passes Rose, wounded and asks her what the date is. She replies "2005, Mate."'Evidently, I believe that this would be before Rose had met the doctor. Also, I have heard (as on this page) that Rose gets married to the doctor in the paralell earth... Didn't Mickey choose to stay in the paralell earth. If he did, he therefore would not be able to marry Martha as she exists on this earth. This means that, like Rose, Mickey has no way of actually getting from the paralell earth to this one. Apparently Donna and her family are returning, though i'm not sure how that would work... I think that maybe that ring that Donna was wearing at the end of the last season has something to do with her re-occurence in the up coming episodes. I thought it may resemble the ring that the master had. That brings me to the subject of the master. Quite recently, hasn't there been a lot of that 'four beat drumming?' That was a main part of the episode with the master in it???? I reckon he may actually be coming back in these last episodes. Also, with the 'beautiful Chaos' subject. Wasn't that master episode also as a book? Called Martha's story or something, where she had to spread the word of the doctor all over the war-torn earth? Though it was slightly changed, it was a very similar plot...That means that it COULD be possible that the Book Beautiful Chaos could be converted into a show??? I mean... In the book, it is after Donna has had her mind wiped...Wilf (Donna's Father) and her mother are both in the book. But...none of the other companions (AKA Rose, Martha or Mickey) are in the book...but it could be adapted. From memory...I've heard somewhere that the next show sill have the title 'Waters of Mars'. Someone has suggested that this could be a play on words. Maybe if you look at the words a little more closely it could actually be 'War of the Master'. I don't know....It is kind of strange but, eh, anything's possible. Well, that's all that I can remember off the top of my head so....
