Avengers: Infinity War Considered a Defenders Appearance
Getting the Defenders into Avengers: Infinity War would have been "practically impossible", but the Russo brothers mulled it over anyway...
Avengers: Infinity War will be landing in theaters everywhere next month, and everyone and their mother is in it – Hawkeye, put your hand down – but could there have been even more characters battling Thanos than there already are? Only always, yes.
An appearance by Netflix’s Defenders, or anyone from the cast of ABC’s Agents Of SHIELD, was ruled out early on, as reams of red tape would’ve been involved in the coup, but that doesn’t mean that directors the Russo brothers didn’t talk it over before they settled on who was in and who was out of the massive event flick. Eventually, though, they ruled the idea out.
“We’ve all considered,” Joe Russo told Premiere, via Flickering Myth. “But the trick is that we already have at least sixty characters with whom we must tell a story! And it’s hard enough to communicate with Taika Waititi, Ryan Coogler, Scott Derrickson, Peyton Reed, and James Gunn at the same time, not to add all the showrunners and TV crews to this. The latter is also led by totally different people. So it’s practically impossible. Our job is to focus on the Marvel film world and offer a satisfying climax.”
Do you reckon Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Danny Rand, Matt Murdock or Frank Castle stand a chance of making it into the MCU in the future? It doesn’t look likely, but we wouldn’t put anything past these peeps – Yes, Peter. You can put your hand down now, too.
Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27.
