Another week, another joyous set of behind the scenes images from Taika Waititi’s highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe fourquel, Thor: Love and Thunder! Having already seen Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) on set in their new costumes last month, filming on Thor 4 continues over in Australia, with Waititi getting more of his Thor: Ragnarok gang back together for another dramatic retelling of Thor’s recent past.

Matt Damon, Luke Hemsworth and Sam Neill have all been spotted on the set of Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder performing yet another play as the ‘actors’ depicting Loki, Thor and Odin, just as they did during a wild moment at the beginning of Thor: Ragnarok when Thor finally discovered that Loki had been posing as Odin (Anthony Hopkins) on Asgard for quite some time.

One of the key moments being reimagined – no doubt hilariously – by the trio of Damon, Hemsworth and Neill here is Thor and Loki’s touching final conversation with Odin in Norway, where Odin informed them of his forthcoming demise, the imminent arrival of their older sister Hela and the ultimate destruction of Asgard. In the scene, Odin dies and Thor and Loki are pretty powerless against a vengeance-fuelled Hela, who obliterates Mjolnir and sets in motion a chain of events that lead to Loki’s death.

When we last saw Thor at the end of Avengers: Endgame, he was leaving Earth with the Guardians of the Galaxy, and we know that he will continue to spend at least a little time with Star-Lord and the rest of the crew, however ex-girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), with whom Thor became estranged after Avengers: Age of Ultron, will also return to take up the Thor mantle in Thor: Love and Thunder, pulling inspiration from Jason Aaron and Russell Dauterman’s The Mightly Thor story from Marvel Comics.

“It is so insane and it’s also very romantic,” Waititi told the BBC about his latest Marvel film. “I’m into romances now. I want to make romance. I want to make something that I’ve never done or never cared for. I would like to attack something like that.”

New faces will include Christian Bale as the villainous Gorr, the God Butcher, who was introduced in Aaron and Esas Ribic’s Thor: God of Thunder. Gorr has a tragic backstory, but is known to have a serious penchant for God killing. It’s not just a clever name! Feel free to read more about Gorr right here.

Thor: Love and Thunder is set to be released on May 6, 2022.
