Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition Release Date and Trailer
Ubisoft is finally reviving Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game after years of requests.
Following weeks of speculation and years of anticipation, Ubisoft has confirmed that Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is returning to digital marketplaces as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition.
Discussions regarding this possible release kicked into overdrive a few weeks ago when the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World movie celebrated its 10th anniversary. Comments made via various social media accounts led many to believe that Ubisoft may be working on some kind of sequel, remake, or re-release of the 2010 video game adaptation of the Edgar Wright film. As you can see, we ended up with a re-release.
Of course, a re-release is really what fans have been asking for this entire time. For those who don’t know, the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World game debuted in 2010 around the same time as the film it was based on. Expectations were fairly low for the digital game based on a movie that most people hadn’t even seen yet.
As it turned out, though, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game quickly became one of the surprise hits of 2010. Essentially a throwback to the days of the 2D beat-em-up genre (especially titles like River City Ransom), Scott Pilgrim complimented its simple (but addictive) action gameplay with a variety of clever design touches that paid tribute to the spirit of the movie without directly lifting them from the film or even the games that it was clearly inspired by. It also featured an incredible soundtrack that some consider to be one of the best in gaming history.
In 2014, though Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game was delisted from digital marketplaces. There’s been no legal way to download the game since then, which was always a tremendous blow to those who never got the chance to play the title or otherwise did not preserve their download.
It doesn’t appear that this upcoming re-release will feature any significant changes, but it will include the original title’s two DLC packs, hence the “Complete Edition” part of the title. Again, that may just prove to be more than enough for a legion of fans who were simply upset that they no longer had the option to just pay Ubisoft and download the game.
Thankfully, we’ll all get another chance to do just that when Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game -Complete Edition is released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia during the Holiday 2020 season.
