Elden Ring: How to Find the Game of Thrones Easter Egg Sword

While Elden Ring is undoubtedly full of Game of Thrones Easter eggs that have yet to be discovered, one of the game’s earliest references to George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire series takes the form of an incredible greatsword that is as visually satisfying as it is powerful.

To find this weapon, you’ll first need to head south of Limgrave to an area charmingly known as the “Bridge of Sacrifice.” From there, you’ll need to head all the way south until you reach Castle Morne. If you can’t seem to find either location, take a look at the image below. The Bridge of Sacrifice is circled in red and Castle Morne is circled in green.

I highly recommend that you take a little time to explore Castle Morne as it is filled with valuable equipment, rare items, and more than a few annoying enemies that you will need to defeat in order to access that valuable equipment and those rare items. Ultimately, though, you will want to work your way through the castle until you reach a tower alongside the beach just below it that is blocked by golden mist. As always, that golden mist means that you can expect to find a boss fight on the other side.

To be more specific, you’ll find Leonine Misbegotten on the other side of the golden mist. Unfortunately for you, Leonine Misbegotten happens to be an incredibly difficult optional boss who is as fast as they are strong. In fact, some are already saying that he’s the hardest boss in the early part of the game. Any of the blows from his erratic attack pattern can easily deplete a good chunk of your health, and even defensive builds won’t be able to absorb too many strikes with their shields.

Ultimately, though, there’s nothing really “special” about this fight. You’re going to have to learn to make the most out of some limited damage windows and conserve your stamina so that your reserves aren’t depleted whenever one of those windows open, but a lot of patience (and, if you have them available to you, a few powerful spells) will help you outlast this ferocious foe.

Not only is that sword a pretty great option for Strength players looking for a new massive weapon to wield (assuming you have the whopping 40 Strength points needed to wield it, that is), but it comes with a unique and valuable skill called “Oath of Vengeance” that temporarily raises all of your attributes when activated. It’s not one of the absolute best weapons in the game (though it’s in that conversation for certain builds), but you can certainly get a lot of mileage out of it. It’s also the “Sword of Morne” that you need to acquire in order to complete the quest that Edgar assigns you (if you happened to run into him at Castle Morne).

More importantly, this sword is obviously a reference to the Iron Throne from the Song and Ice and Fire series: the fantasy series created by Elden Ring collaborator George R.R. Martin.

Much like the Iron Throne, the Grafted Blade Greatsword was crafted from various weapons acquired by whoever originally wielded it. Indeed, the weapon’s item description may even be trying to suggest that the sword’s creator came from the Seven Kingdoms (at least I believe that’s what the curious reference to a “country now-vanished” may slyly be referring to).

So while there’s an interesting discussion to be had about how much George R.R. Martin actually contributed to Elden Ring, it’s nice to see that FromSoftware found a little time to pay homage to one of Martin’s most iconic creations.
