Bungie has unveiled the big Year 4 expansion for Destiny 2. It’s called Beyond Light and will see players learn more about the Darkness and even allow Guardians to wield a Dark ability for the first time called Stasis.

“Guardians will wield this new elemental power alongside Arc, Solar, and Void to summon epic supers and control the battlefield,” Bungie said in a press release. “Titans, Warlocks and Hunters will each use Stasis in a different way. More details on Stasis to come later this summer.”

The expansion will also introduce a new location to the Destiny universe, the Jupiter moon of Europa, a destination that was originally planned for the first Destiny but was eventually cut from the game.

“Brave the unrelenting glacial frontier, infiltrate the Golden Age Braytech facility, and uncover the secrets that lie deep under the ancient ice,” Bungie said of the Europa location.

Beyond Light will also introduce a new raid to the game. It’s called Deep Stone Crypt, which “has remained dormant” until now, according to Bungie. This location has been teased in the past and is a vital piece of Exo lore. Deep Stone Crypt is one of three Year 4 raids coming to the game.

Destiny 2 Season 11, which is called “Season of Arrivals,” will lead to Beyond Light, the first of three major expansions the developer has planned through 2022. Introducing a roadmap that outlines Bungie’s plans for the game for the next two years, the studio also revealed The Witch Queen expansion for 2021 and Lightfall expansion for 2022.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light Release Date

Destiny 2: Beyond Light is out on Nov. 10 after being delayed from its original Sept. 22 launch date. The game is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. Destiny 2 and all of its expansions, including Beyond Light, are also coming to Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 later this year.

Xbox Game Pass owners will also get access to the game and all of its current expansions starting in September as part of the subscription. They’ll also get Beyond Light for no extra charge in November. If you have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you’ll also be able to play Destiny 2 on xCloud when the cloud gaming service comes to Game Pass in September.

Players who purchase Beyond Light (or any other expansions) on PS4 or XBO will be able to bring that content with them to the PS5 and XSX respectively. Destiny 2 will also support cross-generational play, so you can still play with your PS4 and XBO fans, even if you upgrade to the PS5 and XSX version of the game.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light Story

Here’s the official synopsis for the expansion: “A new power is born out of the ancient Pyramid ship above Europa, and a dark empire has risen beneath. In the Destiny 2: Beyond Light expansion, Guardians will explore a changed universe, with a new destination, new adventures, and even new powers to explore.”

Bungie says that Destiny 2: Beyond Light will reveal the true nature of the Light and the Darkness. The story will also see the return of the Exo Stranger, a character first introduced in the first Destiny who mysteriously disappeared after players completed the vanilla campaign. The Stranger, who Bungie previously claimed would never appear in the story again, is the one who beckoned Eris and the Drifter to Europa.

The studio also teased a new Fallen empire on Europa led by the villainous Eramis: “The splintered houses of the Fallen have rallied and built their new empire on Europa, united under the banner of the Fallen Kell of Darkness, Eramis. Abandoned by the Traveler and left by the Light, Eramis is on her own journey into the Darkness, and towards a collision course with Guardians.”
