SKAM Austin: How and Where to Watch Online
New to the world of Skam and SKAM Austin? Here's everything you need to know about how to watch on Facebook Watch.
We’re living in the wild west of media-making, in which new frontiers of how to watch TV are popping up all of the time. It’s exciting, but it can also be daunting if you don’t know how, where, or when to watch. I’m here to help.
New to the world of SKAM Austin? Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Facebook Watch’s adaptation of SKAM into your eyeballs.
What is SKAM Austin?
Let’s go real basic here. For those who are new to the world of SKAM, SKAM was a Norwegian TV drama that ran from 2015 to 2017 in Norway, for four seasons. Every season of SKAM closely followed the life of a different teen in the same social group at Oslo’s Hartvig Nissen School.
SKAM was told in a transmedia format, which means that, while the story was primarily told through video clips released on the NRK website and channel, the story was also played out over social media via in-character accounts. The clips and social media posts were released in “real time,” which means, when they happened in the fictional world of the Skam characters, fans could follow along.
SKAM Austin is the American adaptation of SKAM that “airs” on Facebook Watch. It follows a similar storyline as SKAM, though there are some notable differences that will no doubt begin to represent larger changes as the story ripples out. Here’s how to watch…
How to Watch SKAM Austin
So, now you know what Skam was, what SKAM Austin is, and are interested in checking it out. Where to start?
First of all, you’re going to want to go to Facebook Watch’s SKAM Austin page. To start at the beginning of the story, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, as far as you can go. That way, you will be able to read all of the Instagram posts, Messenger screenshots, etc., as well as watch the video clips in the order they occur.
It should be noted that the video installments are available in both scene and episode form. Once all of the clips have been released in real time, Facebook Watch puts them together as a full “episode” at the end of the week. If you watch the “Week 1” video, then you will see all of the clips released in that week (though not the social media posts that go along with them).
Though you may be able to guess based on contextual clues, there is no schedule for when the clips are released. It is a surprise, though the full episodes are released on Friday night. Here is the first episode…
The most recent content is available at the top of the SKAM Austin page so, once you’ve caught up, you’ll not need to scroll down quite as often. If you want to just watch the videos, you can head to the SKAM Austin watchlist. Again, you’re going to want to start at the bottom of the page.
