Pink Floyd Live Album PULSE Getting Deluxe Reissue

A fan favorite Pink Floyd live album is getting the deluxe vinyl LP treatment for collectors

Pulse, the classic 1995 Pink Floyd live album that documented their 1994 The Division Bell tour, is getting a deluxe vinyl reissue in May. Pulse was recorded during assorted dates of the UK and Europe leg of that tour (the shows in the United States took place in the spring and early summer of that year). While it did get an initial vinyl LP release in 1994, it was when the format was in decline, and has remained hard to find for over twenty years. Instead, Pulse was primarily known for its intricate CD packaging, which included a blinking red LED on the spine.

Pulse is notable for not only chronicling the final Pink Floyd tour, but for including a complete live performance of The Dark Side of the Moon. This tour was the first time the band had performed that album in its entirety in 20 years. The rest of the set is made up of an assortment of songs from The Division Bell, A Momentary Lapse of ReasonThe Wall, and Wish You Were Here, with one selection (“Astronomy Domine”) from debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (which is also getting a deluxe reissue).

What’s especially cool for Floyd completists is that this will include a version of “One of These Days” (from the Meddle album) recorded at Earl’s Court on October 21, 1994. While “One of These Days” was included on the LP and cassette versions of the original release, it was left off the CD version (and subsequent streaming releases). Instead, this version of “One of These Days” was used as a b-side for the CD single of “High Hopes.” It’s a neat little rarity from this era of Pink Floyd. It’s not clear if this version of “One of These Days” will be added to streaming versions of Pulse after the LP set’s release. If it is, it would slot in after “Another Brick in the Wall Part II.”

Here’s the official info on what the Pulse deluxe LP will include.

‘PULSE’, originally released in 1995, was compiled by James Guthrie, using various performances from the band’s 1994 Division Bell tour across the UK and Europe featuring David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. The album includes ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ performed in full live, as well as a whole side dedicated to the show’s encore. The 4-LP set includes four different inner sleeves, each inside individual outer sleeves, plus a 52-page hardback photo book, all encased in a thick card slipcase. This 2018 release was remastered from the original tapes by James Guthrie, Joel Plante and Bernie Grundman. Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis and Peter Curzon, who worked on the original art with the late Hipgnosis co-founder, Storm Thorgerson, recreated the art package.
