Link Tank: Kenny Loggins – The King of ’80s Movie Soundtracks
Fly back into the danger zone, new Obi-Wan toys are coming, the Fast and Furious family keeps getting bigger, and more in Link Tank!
Top Gun: Maverick will put Kenny Loggin’s “Danger Zone” back in the spotlight (where it belongs). Here’s how the artist conquered the movie soundtrack world in the 1980s.
“Most musicians would be content to shape the sound of pop in one decade—like how Elvis Presley shook up the ’50s or The Beatles owned the ’60s. But not Kenny Loggins. After helping to invent the supremely chill, lightly funky sound known as ‘yacht rock’ in the ’70s, Loggins went full speed into the ’80s and took the highway to the danger zone of movie soundtracks. The gambit paid off in a big way.”
Another Hollywood legend is joining the Fast and Furious family, and this time it’s West Side Story icon Rita Moreno.
“In an inspired bit of stunt casting, iconic EGOT winner Rita Moreno will join the Fast and the Furious franchise family. The iconic actress will appear in the upcoming Fast X as Dominic Toretto’s grandmother! Diesel, flanked by Moreno and co-star Michelle Rodriguez, made the announcement via his Instagram. ‘It’s been my dream forever to work with Rita Moreno, and the fact that she’s here playing my grandmother makes my soul smile,’ Diesel says, adding ‘I’m so blessed.'”
Do you know who has the sickest burns of anyone across the galaxy? It’s Uncle Owen, of course…
“From day one, Star Wars made it very clear there’s no love lost between Owen Lars and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Lars calls Kenobi a ‘crazy old man’ and tries to get Luke Skywalker to pay him no mind. Which, of course, doesn’t work. But that relationship got a fun new twist in the most recent trailer for Disney+’s Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi and now there’s more.”
In honor of the release of Obi-Wan Kenobi this Friday, LEGO is gearing up with several new Kenobi-centric sets.
“The LEGO instructions portal has revealed a new BrickHeadz set, 40547 Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Vader. It’s believed that it will be available at the Star Wars Celebration event that commences tomorrow in Anaheim, CA, which coincides with the first episode of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series airing on Disney+.”
A new trailer for The Gray Man pits Ryan Gosling against Chris Evans (and his mustache) in the latest film from the Russo Brothers.
“Netflix has dropped the official trailer for the Russo Brothers‘ upcoming film The Gray Man, starring Ryan Gosling and Chris Evans. Based on the Mark Greaney’s book series of the same name, The Gray Man sees Gosling as CIA operative Court Gentry/Sierra Six and Evans as his former CIA cohort Lloyd Hansen.”
Another MCU star is joining the cast of the Garfield reboot. This time, it’s Samuel L. Jackson, who will be playing a new character, Garfield’s father, Vic.
“Samuel L. Jackson is joining the cast of the upcoming animated Garfield movie that will star Chris Pratt as the lazy, sarcastic, Monday-hating, lasagna-loving fat orange cat Garfield. Jackson will play a new role new to the film, portraying Garfield’s father Vic. As of yet, no other cast has been set to portray Garfield’s owner Jon Arbuckle.”
