Prolific indie rock band Car Seat Headrest debuted another new track from their upcoming Matador Records release, Making A Door Less Open. The band dropped the latest single “Hollywood” this morning on SiriusXM’s SirusXMU and a video directed by Sabrina Nichols shortly followed.

In a press release accompanying the new track, Car Seat Headrest bandleader Will Toledo said, “This song is about Hollywood as a place where people go to make their fantasies come to life, and they end up exploiting other people and doing terrible things to maintain their fantasy. There’s this terror you’re going to lose the fantasy, and you’re going to have to face the facts, and some people will do anything to avoid facing that. It’s about that fear, and the pain of being subjugated to someone else’s fantasy against your will, and it’s all tied together under this banner of this physical location of Hollywood that we all know about and dream about, but none of us really want to think about what is going on behind the scenes there.”

“Hollywood” follows the previously released Making A Door Less Open tracks “Can’t Cool Me Down” and “Martin.” Making A Door Less Open is Car Seat Headrest’s first set of new songs since 2016’s Teens Of Denial — 2018’s Twin Fantasy was a re-imagination of an album originally released by Toledo independently in 2011. The new record is pitched as a “collaboration” between Car Seat Headrest and 1 Trait Danger, a CSH electronic side project consisting of drummer Andrew Katz and Toledo’s alternate persona, Trait. The video for “Hollywood” finds Trait in animated form, and Katz contributes significant vocals, more so than any past Car Seat Headrest releases.

You can pre-order Making a Door Less Open across all formats, with distinct track listings and mixes for digital, CD and vinyl, here and find a tracklisting below. Making A Door Less Open is out May 1.
