Supernatural Stars Talk Series’ End, 666-Episode Mark

Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and Misha Collins aren't sick of each other yet...

Rumors of the eventual end of Supernaturalhave been haunting all of us since series star Jensen Eckles told Entertainment Weekly in September that “300 [episodes] is a good number to work for.” Ackles and co-star Jared Padalecki clarified the statement a bit more during a Supernaturalset visit earlier today. Here’s what the Winchester boys told Den of Geek and other reporters gathered about the end of the series…

“I think it was more of like, that’s the next milestone,” Ackles said. “We kind have our eyes set on getting there and then we’ll see- I mean, [Jared] keeps talking about another number, but I don’t want to mention it.”

Padalecki noted that they used to look at the next stretches of episodes at half-seasons, hoping they’d make it even that far. Now, it’s 45 episodes at a time. Padalecki added:

Eric Kripke way back in the day, I think in season three or four, he mentioned five seasons or something. And everyone was like, ‘You’re gonna end after five seasons?’ And he was like, ‘No. That was taken out of context. I just think we can at least get that far, you know?’ I think he legitimately was like,  ‘I’m just trying to keep pushing the ball, so they keep on saying yes’ … I don’t think it’s going to be a number. I think we’ll all know it when we do it. It’s going to be hard to swallow.

If it’s not a number, what will it be? Ackles said: “I think as long as there’s still story to tell … It’s kind of limitless. And I think as long as they’re still coming, as long as they’re still staying true to the show and to the characters, you know being written in a way where we’re still inspired to play them, I don’t know that there is a number necessarily.”

You know who does have a number? Misha Collins. He suggested Supernaturalaim for 666 numbers. “Odd coming from an angel,” remarked Ackles, adding…

Yeah, we don’t know and the network doesn’t seem to have any designs to knock us off. We still have amazing support from the studio. We still, oddly enough, get along.

Ackles and Padalecki assured fans that, when (if?) Supernaturaldoes end, it won’t be out of the blue. Padalecki said: “I like to think there will be warning. It will be a group decision,” adding that, when the show does end, “I don’t know what life would be like.” You and us both, Jared Padalecki.
