Spider-Man: Far From Home Deepfake Stars Tobey Maguire

Ooh no. No, thank you. Spider-Man: Far From Home with a de-aged Tobey Maguire is just weird.

First of all, yes, it is a slow news day, thanks for asking. Secondly, the following video is still unsettling enough that we’ve watched it five times already, so bringing it to you here could possibly be considered a public service and very altruistic. Not medal-worthy, maybe …unless? No. Of course not. Just saying, if there were a medal, we could potentially move things around this afternoon. Should there be a ceremony of some sort. Theoretically.

Anyway, in the midst of all the Spider-Man sadness playing out right now in public as Sony and Disney part ways, YouTuber Aldo Jones has responded by uploading a deepfake video that superimposes the face of former Peter Parker Tobey Maguire onto Tom Holland’s very real face in this year’s billion-dollar blockbuster, Spider-Man: Far From Home. Why? Well, why not.

To say the results are weird is a bit of an understatement, especially with Holland’s own voice remaining intact, but honestly we’d rather people were having this sort of fun with deepfakes than the other sort of ‘fun’ they’re being used for elsewhere – the less said about that, the better.

Take a look…

It’s been confirmed that Tom Holland will remain in the role of Spider-Man for Sony, despite the studio effectively removing him from the MCU.

“Basically, we’ve made five great movies,” Holland told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s been five amazing years. I’ve had the time of my life. Who knows what the future holds? But all I know is that I’m going to continue playing Spider-Man and having the time of my life. It’s going to be so fun, however we choose to do it. The future for Spider-Man will be different, but it will be equally as awesome and amazing, and we’ll find new ways to make it even cooler.”
