WandaVision: X-Men Star Evan Peters Reportedly Joins Cast of Disney Plus MCU Series

A report has surfaced that indicates Evan Peters has a role to play in Disney+’s MCU series, WandaVision. The beloved American Horror Story actor previously appeared in Fox’s X-Men films Days of Future Past, Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix as Peter Maximoff aka Quicksilver, and was arguably one of the best things about the later entries in Fox’s mutant franchise.

An exclusive from Murphy’s Multiverse, which has become a fairly reliable source of behind the scenes industry chatter, reveals that Peters signed up for Marvel’s WandaVision late in 2019 and has since completed filming his mysterious role. Right now, the casting of Peters remains officially unconfirmed by both Marvel Studios and Disney, and the report doesn’t indicate whether the actor will star as Quicksilver.

Kick-Ass lead Aaron Taylor-Johnson previously played Quicksilver in MCU instalment Avengers: Age of Ultron as Pietro Maximoff, who was imbued with his powers by Hydra from the Mind Stone in Loki’s sceptre along with his twin sister, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. His character was killed off at the end of Joss Whedon’s final Marvel film.

Canonically, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are the children of X-Men‘s Magneto, but were portrayed differently in Whedon’s 2015 blockbuster due to conflicting rights ownership between Fox and Marvel. This is no longer a problem for Disney, who acquired Fox last year, but whether its new Scarlet Witch streaming show would choose to include Peters as Quicksilver is difficult to say. On one hand, the plot of WandaVision has been described as totally bonkers by its cast, and in the first footage from the series we can see that Scarlet Witch appears to be living in quite the fantasy world. We’ve also been told that WandaVision will be connected to Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, so it’s possible that both Peters and Taylor-Johnson could appear in a sideways look at other realities. It’s just as possible, however, that Peters could be playing a new character. He’d certainly be a welcome addition to the MCU in any respect.

Peters had some things to say about the decision to nix Quicksilver during Age of Ultron back in 2016, leaving him to embody the role alone in Fox’s X-Men films. He really wasn’t too happy!

“I was devastated by it,” he told Yahoo. “I really wanted that to keep going. I thought it was cool. I don’t really know why they killed him off. I liked what they did with it. It was different. It was a completely different take on it. He had the Russian accent. I mean, they had this swoopy thing with the lines behind, which I thought was really cool, and I don’t know. I thought it was a cool character.”

Peters said he wasn’t initially unnerved by the dual casting for Quicksilver – on the contrary, he was excited by the rivalry.

“I thought it could have been a cool competition,” he explained. “Like, ‘Oh, they did that with him and that was awesome. Now we’ve got to try to top that with this.’ It could have been a nice little, I don’t know, motivation.”

In Marvel’s WandaVision, Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany will again play Scarlet Witch and Vision respectively, and the series will feature characters from other areas of the MCU, including Ant-Man & The Wasp‘s Randall Park, Thor‘s Kat Dennings, and Teyonah Parris as a grown-up Monica Rambeau, who we first saw in Captain Marvel.

The series is set for a December release date on Disney+. Whether we’ll see the return of Quicksilver – or Quicksil-vers – when it arrives, only time will tell.
