The Boys Season 3 Confirmed
Amazon Prime has renewed The Boys for season 3 and tacked on an Aisha Tyler-hosted aftershow for good measure.
The Boys are back in town…again!
Amazon Prime announced today during The Boys Comic-Con@Home appearance that it has renewed its adaptation of Garth Ennis’s dark superhero drama for season 3. The announcement comes ahead of season 2’s premiere date on September 4. Additionally, Amazon announced the creation of an official Boys aftershow called Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys. The show will be hosted by Aisha Tyler and will feature interviews with members of The Boys cast, creative team, and other special guests.
“Eric Kripke and the incredible cast of The Boys continue to deliver a wild and action-packed series full of surprises and can’t-miss moments that have made the series a global hit,” said Vernon Sanders, Co-Head of Television, Amazon Studios. “We couldn’t be more excited to see where Eric takes The Boys and The Supes in Season 3, and to have Aisha Tyler join The Boys family as the host of Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys.”
The Boys creator Eric Kripke will return for season 3 as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Preacher) also continue on as executive producers. Just like the show’s first two seasons, The Boys season 3 will feature eight episodes. No release date has been announced yet but when the third season premieres it will be available in all of Prime Video’s international markets in addition to the U.S.
The Boys is adapted from the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robinson, Just like the comic, the show is set in a world where superheroes not only exist but are also corporate-branded celebrities and entertainers. And just like our own world there’s a dark, seedy side to celebrity culture. The titular Boys, led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) team up to make sure that the super-powerful are kept in check.
This coming season of The Boys will find the team on the run following the events of the first season. Hughie (Jack Quaid), Mother’s Milk (Laz Alonso), Frenchie (Tomer Capon), and Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) try to adapt to their new lives while also keeping an eye out for the missing Butcher. Uber-popular superhero team The Seven will return as well, highlighted by Homelander (Anthony Starr), Starlight (Erin Moriarty), and The Deep (Chace Crawford).
Joining the cast for season 2 are Aya Cash (You’re the Worst) as Stormfront and Patton Oswalt in an undisclosed role.
Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys will premiere on August 28 with a look back at season 1. The show will continue to air weekly alongside The Boys, culminating in an October 9 finale for both series.
