Supergirl Season 5: What’s Next For Kara & Lena?

Heading into Supergirl Season 5, one of the storylines we’re most excited (and anxious) to play out is the ever-evolving relationship between Kara and Lena. In the Season 4 finale, Lex revealed Kara’s secret identity to Lena moments before his death and, frankly, Lena looked pretty pissed that her best friend has been keeping this secret from her for all of these years.

Den of Geek was part of a group of reporters who had the chance to chat with Supergirl co-showrunner Jessica Queller, as well as series star Melissa Benoist at today’s San Diego Comic Con press room about what to expect from the Supercorp dynamic in Season 5.

“Rough times ahead,” Benoist said about the Lena/Kara dynamic moving forward. “Storm’s on the horizon.”

Queller had more time to chat, focusing specifically on how the manner in which Lena discovered Kara’s secret will play a role in how she processes it.

“One of the central stories this season is the friendship between Lena and Kara and whether or not it can survive,” said Queller. “Lena’s Achilles’ heel is betrayal and she has made that clear to her friends from the beginning and the way she found out about this betrayal—Lex twisting the knife and sort of pouring salt on the wound—affects how she feels about it. So that will be a huge, central story.”

Yikes! Sounds like things are going to get worse, at least for a while. The big question still being: will they ever get better?
