The Clone Wars, the animated series that bridges the gap between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, remains one of the most beloved corners of the Star Wars universe, so it’s not surprising that fans have been clamoring for its return in the years since the show was canceled. On Feb. 21, fans will finally get more adventures starring their favorite Jedi and clone troopers, as The Clone Wars season 7 sets out to wrap up the story left unfinished after the last episode aired in 2014.
The new season will tackle major events of the Clone Wars such as The Siege of Mandalore, a final assault on the Mandalorian homeworld by the Republic in an attempt to free the planet from a resurgent Maul. Teasers have shown a face-off between protagonist Ahsoka Tano and the former Sith apprentice that will undoubtedly become a highlight of the series’ final season. The show will also explore what Ahsoka got up to in the underbelly of Coruscant after she left the Jedi Order for good. And of course, we’re likely to see more nods to Anakin Skywalker’s eventual fall to the dark side and transformation into Darth Vader.
But while the series has always focused largely on the Jedi fighting in the frontlines of the war, it also sheds more light on the faceless soldiers barely mentioned in George Lucas’ movies. Captain Rex and his men, in particular, share top billing with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, Anakin, Padme Amidala, and Mace Windu, as they blast their way from one battle to the next.
Unsurprisingly, Rex and his troopers will once again take center stage in The Clone Wars season 7 premiere, “The Bad Batch,” which sees Rex meet up with another squad of clone troopers for a big mission. You can watch the first clip from the episode below:
Here’s the synopsis of the episode:
It’s the end of the historic Clone Wars, as the forces of darkness have amassed great power in their bid to transform the Republic into the Galactic Empire. With the Republic on a losing streak, Captain Rex fears the Separatists are using stolen data to help predict the Grand Army’s every move. As the threat of defeat looms, Rex teams up with experimental Clone Force 99, also known as the Bad Batch. Together, they embark on a high-risk mission behind enemy lines to uncover the truth behind the Separatist victories in “The Bad Batch.”
The new season of The Clone Wars will run for 12 episodes for Disney+.
