Star Trek: Discovery Confirms Cast Exits After Season 2
It looks like we won't be seeing much more of Captain Pike and Number One after this season concludes.
Star Trek: Discovery‘s well-received second season continues to play out on CBS All Access, and we’re fully immersed in the mystery of the Red Angel with Spock and Burnham, but it looks like a couple of the new crew will only be hanging around for just this one season, and the news will probably make sense to you if you’re a dedicated Trekkie (or Trekker, if you prefer).
Deadline has confirmed that Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and Rebecca Romijn, his Number One, will be saying their goodbyes at the end of Star Trek: Discovery season 2.
Per the site’s report:
“Both Hell On Wheels alum Mount and Romijn had strictly one-year deals; the duo had been contracted only for season 2 arcs as part of a plan to sync up Discovery with the original Star Trek lore by the end of the new series’ second season heading into season 3.”
Both Pike and Number One featured in TOS, albeit briefly, and we saw more of the Enterprise’s former Captain in J.J. Abrams’ reboot films, where he was played by Bruce Greenwood. Someone on the Discovery production has hinted to Deadline that this might not be the last we’ll see of Pike in the series, but we’ll just have to wait and see if his character fits in to the story later on.
