Creepshow Season 3 in the Works at AMC’s Shudder
AMC’s horror streaming imprint Shudder has ordered scripts for Creepshow season 3, making a renewal very likely.
Spooky times require spooky TV shows. AMC’s streaming horror service Shudder is doing its part by ordering scripts for Creepshow season 3. The news was first reported by Variety.
While this does not technically constitute an official renewal yet, networks and streaming services, particularly smaller ones like Shudder, generally aren’t in the habit of ordering scripts for full series that they don’t intend on filming. The reasoning for this atypical season 3 renewal announcement is likely the same reasoning for just about everything right now: the coronavirus outbreak. Creepshow season 2 was set to begin production in March in Atlanta but was forced to delay due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Shudder just wanted to get rolling on season 3 while season 2 remained in stasis.
“Although season 2 is on pause while we wait until it’s safe to go into production, we wanted to use the time to start work on season 3 scripts to let Greg Nicotero and his amazing team get as far ahead as possible,” Shudder general manager Craig Engler said in a statement.
Creepshow season 1 premiered on Shudder in September of 2019. The seies was brought to television by The Walking Dead director, producer, and gore expert Greg Nicotero and brought 12 scary stories to life over the span of six episodes. The series borrows its title and format from the 1982 film of the same name. That original movie featured five horror vignettes written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero. Nicotero visited the 1982 Creepshow’s set as one of Romero’s young protégé’s. He will remain on to run the series for both season 2 and season 3.
“Creepshow continues to be near and dear to my heart and having the opportunity to continue the legacy by developing season 3 gives me the chance to work with some of the best storytellers and artists in the business. The stories we have in the pipeline for season 2 are even more outrageous, more fun and capture the spirit of what George Romero and Stephen King started in the ‘80s,” Nicotero said.
Creepshow’s first season featured the acting talents of Giancarlo Esposito, Adrienne Barbeau, Kid Cudi, Tobin Bell, Jeffrey Combs, DJ Qualls, David Arquette, and more. The season included original stories from Joe Hill, Stephen King, Rob Schrab, and Paul Dini among others.
With production in Hollywood slowed by the coronavirus pandemic, AMC aired all six episodes of Creepshow season 1 on its network in May. Those six episodes are still currently available on Shudder to stream.
