Why Danny Trejo isn’t in The Expendables, plus new Japanese trailer
There’s 30 seconds of madness in a new The Expendables trailer, and also the reason why you won’t see Danny Trejo in it…
It’s quite possible that if you’re a regular reader of the site, you might have already picked up the vibe that we’re really quite looking forward to The Expendables later this year. Sylvester Stallone’s film, which brings together a cavalcade of action movie talent, isn’t out until August, but we’re already dreaming up even better casts for a potential sequel.
However, not everyone linked with the first film ended up being in it. Danny Trejo’s name was banded around when the project was first being talked about, but the actor – who will be headlining another ensemble film we’re looking forward to later this year in the shape of Machete – has been revealing why he’s not involved in Stallone’s movie.
He told The Onion’s AV Club that “Stallone said I was in The Expendables so he could raise his money, you know what I mean? [Laughs.] Because I bring in the Latin audience. So I was in The Expendables all the way up until the time they started casting. I’m not in The Expendables.“
Trejo added, “That’s one of Hollywood’s ploys to… how do you say it? They have this huge cast, and then all of a sudden, when it comes time to cast, the people that actually raised the money aren’t in it.”
Ouch.

It’d still be remiss of us not to post the Japanese trailer for The Expendables that’s been doing the rounds. It’s a masterclass in efficiency, cramming pretty much everything and everyone into 30 seconds. And here it is…
The Expendables arrives in August, Machete is out in September.
