Thanos-Inspired Subreddit Poised to Ban Half its Members

Over 110,000 members of r/thanosdidnothingwrong are set to commit to the Mad Titan's cause next week...

Spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War lie ahead…

Thanos is crazy, and the majority of us can likely agree on that, but now that the Avengers-beating villain has snuffed out half the cosmos – at least, in the reality of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – he’s managed to find a fair few people here on our planet that think he might well have some valid points.

Reddit’s massively popular subreddit, r/thanosdidnothingwrong, is such a place where these Thanos-inclined philosophers can gather and chew the fat, but inevitably, there came a moment when the registered members decided they should put their money where their mouths are, and now plans are afoot for half the group’s members to be mass banned, with a date penciled in for 9th July.

Via Polygon, more than 110,000 members of the subreddit (and climbing) will have happily volunteered to be booted off the forum before the carnage is over, but those running the show over there weren’t exactly keen on the idea to start with.

“You seriously want us to ban half of the subreddit?” moderator Dragonphlegm initially shot back. “Restore order to this meme haven to please Lord Thanos? It would be the biggest massban in reddit history and we’d probably get into some serious trouble, but for the good of Thanos, maybe we will. (We probably won’t) snap”

Over time, though, the idea blossomed into a fully-fledged plan of action, but a July 4th date has already been scuppered by Reddit.

“As you all know, I was in talks with one of the admins of Reddit,” another moderator wrote recently. “He told me that doing a massive ban the day before July 4 was a terrible idea, because many of Reddit’s engineers would be out with their families. Also, the engineers would not be prepared for a mass ban so close to it. However, I presented a solution to these two problems, and I now have their permission to ban half of the sub! The random 50% ban will take place on July 9. The admins are designing a bot for me that will allow me to do the job in a quick and easy manner. So, be patient, and thank you all for your support.”

Now, members are excitedly waiting to find out if they’ll make the cut come judgment day, or whether they’ll end up a spray of dusty motes, like so many of our Marvel heroes back in April.

Ahh, the internet.
