So what’s Matthew Modine doing in The Dark Knight Rises?

More rumours emanate from Gotham City, as speculation about just where Matthew Modine’s character fits into The Dark Knight Rises begins to swirl…

Production is continuing on Christopher Nolan’s final Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises, and in lieu of fresh and concrete information on the film, the mighty Internet has been seeing what it can make of whatever nuggets it’s fed.

Thus, the latest speculation surrounding Matthew Modine’s character in the film.

It was announced a short while ago that Modine would be playing a character by the name of Nixon, although in line with the secrecy surrounding the production, that’s all we got. However, according to Showbiz 411, Nixon will be “a politician and a key villain” in the film.

Hmmm. Thus far, we know that Tom Hardy as Bane will be a villain in the movie, and your guess is as good as ours as to how Nolan will approach the character of Catwoman. She may be a villain, she may not be.

If the character of Nixon does turn out to be the on the side of bad, then at most, we suspect Modine’s involvement will be no bigger than Tom Wilkinson’s in Batman Begins. It more sounds to us like he’s a cog in the machine than a particularly evil, cackling menace. But we’ve been wrong before, and we’d bet hard cash that we will be wrong again.
