The Elder Scrolls 6 Won’t be Released for “Years”

In a recent tweet, Bethesda’s Pete Hines shut down an enthusiastic fan by confirming that we shouldn’t expect to see any new details about The Elder Scrolls 6 for a very long time.

As you can see, Hines is being pretty straightforward as it concerns the possibility of seeing The Elder Scrolls 6 any time in the near future. When a developer (especially Bethesda) says “years,” then you can guarantee that they’re trying to manage all expectations of seeing a game until you actually see it next.

It’s also certainly worth noting that Hines references Starfield in relation to The Elder Scrolls 6‘s release date. We’ve always known that Starfield will be released before The Elder Scrolls 6. However, the fact that Hines mentions that we “pretty much know nothing about” Starfield would also tend to suggest that the full reveal of that game may also not happen in the near future.

So when do we expect these games to be revealed and released? First off, we’re pretty confident that Starfield and The Elder Scrolls 6 will be next-gen exclusives at this point. Bethesda has decided that they will not host a full digital event in 2020 to replace their previously planned E3 conference, so you could interpret that to mean that they didn’t really have anything that significant to showcase (or at least reveal in full) at what would have been the studio’s 2020 E3 show.

Considering that the spread of the coronavirus has seemingly disrupted the studio’s development and reveal schedule, it seems unlikely that Starfield will be released by the end of 2021 (though we may get to see more of the game before then) That suggests that 2022 is the most likely early release date for Starfield, and we doubt that we’ll see major new releases come to PS4 and Xbox One by that time.

As for The Elder Scrolls 6, we highly doubt that you’d see Bethesda release the next Elder Scrolls game the year after Starfield. So, if you believe that Starfield could be released in 2022, then we could be looking at a 2024 release date for The Elder Scrolls 6.

Those dates are based on assumptions, but that does seem to be the kind of time table that Bethesda is trying to prepare us for.
