Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a new standalone Spidey game from Insomniac Games, wowed fans during the PlayStation 5 reveal event in June. The game is set to pick up Miles’ story after the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man and further explore the character’s evolution into a web-slinging superhero.

Sony is not only touting this game as a continuation of its last superhero hit but as a powerful showcase for the PS5’s technology and innovations. “

“With PS5’s ultra-fast SSD, players can near-instantaneously fast-travel across Marvel’s New York City, or feel the tension of each one of Miles’s web-swings, punches, web shots, and venom blasts with the DualSense wireless controller’s haptic feedback,” Sony said in a blog post. “Highly-detailed character models and enhanced visuals across the game intensify the story of Miles Morales as he faces great, new challenges while learning to be his own Spider-Man.”

Those “highly-detailed character models and enhanced visuals” are certainly on display in the game’s debut trailer, as we watch Miles in action, taking down bad guys, jump off the hood of cars, and swinging around New York City. A close up of Miles’ face at the end of the video has already become one of the shining examples of what developers will be able to do with CGI on the PS5.

As far as the “ultra-fast SSD” goes, it’ll be difficult to say just how fast and revolutionary it really is until we’ve had a chance to actually play the game or see some gameplay footage. Much has already been said about the PS5’s SSD, with developers and industry insiders teasing that the speed of the component is an absolute game-changer. The SSD, which is able to process multiple GBs of data per second, will reportedly allow the PS5 to virtually eliminate load times in games, which some are saying will result in even bigger and more immersive game worlds. A fast-paced title like Marvel’s Spider-Man will certainly be an excellent showcase for this kind of innovation.

But people aren’t only talking about the game’s story, graphics, or open-world setting. They’re also asking about the music in the debut trailer. While we only hear a short snippet of the chorus of the song, the tune should be immediately recognizable to hip hop fans.

The song is called “On My Own” and it’s performed by Jaden with guest vocals from Kid Cudi. The track is off Jaden’s 2019 album Erys. You can listen to the song in full below:

Erys is Jaden’s (aka Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith) second studio album after 2017’s Syre. The album also features appearances by Willow Smith, Tyler, the Creator, Lido, Trinidad James, and ASAP Rocky.

While it’s always possible you’ll be able to hear the track in the full release of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, all we know for now is that “On My Own” is being used to promote the game. The first game was scored by composer John Paesano, who is also known for his work on Netflix’s Daredevil and The Defenders series.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set to release this holiday as a launch title for the PS5.
