Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 2 Release Date, Gameplay, Trailer, and Updates
Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 is a spy-based thriller featuring Marvel's mouthy merc.
Fortnite is once again crossing paths with Marvel, with the famously mouthy comic-book mercenary Deadpool appearing in the iconic battle royale game as an unlockable skin in the latest Battle Pass. There have been a few crossovers between Marvel and Fortnite in the past, including last year’s Stan Lee-homaging Avengers: Endgame event, but this one looks to be a bit different.
This time, the Marvel crossover element is actually just one piece of a much larger picture. That’s because Epic Games has rolled the reveal of its Deadpool skin into an announcement for Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2, a massive new update to the popular game that has gone live today and brought with it loads of new content.
The overall flavor of this update is something of a James Bond-style tale of spy-stuffed spills and espionage-infused thrills. As you can see from the trailer below, Fortnite is egging players on to take part in a battle between two groups of sneaky operatives – the groups are codenamed Shadow and Ghost, and they’ll be pitted against each other throughout this event.
Players are invited to meet new agents at a place called the Hideout and take part in Weekly Challenges for them. As well as offering Weekly Challenges, the agents will present you with Battle Pass Challenges, which will give you some more new things to do. One of these agents is called Maya and she is a highly customizable new character.
To get involved with the Fortnite Deadpool content, you need to head into the Hideout and sneak through a vent that has Deadpool’s memorable logo above it. Once you’re into Deadpool’s secret hideaway, you’ll be able to pick up Weekly Challenges from Deadpool that’ll help you unlock the Deadpool skin at a later point in the season. You’ll also find some Easter eggs in there, which include an Avengers logo and a letter from Deadpool to Epic Games – that’s a classic bit of fourth-wall-breaking from Wade Wilson right there.
It’ll be interesting to see, as this spy-tinged season of content progresses, whether any other iconic characters will be added into Fortnite to take part. With the next James Bond flick just around the corner, it doesn’t seem outlandish to hope for some No Time To Die tie-in content in the game. That’s just a rumor for now, though, so we’ll just be sat over here daydreaming about 007 showing up in the Hideout and entering the battlefield with Deadpool.
Fortnite Season 2 Chapter 2 is out on Feb. 20.
