Dataminers have seemingly uncovered a description of Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War that reveals the game is a direct sequel to the original Black Ops.

“The iconic Black Ops series is back with Call of Duty®: Black Ops Cold War – the direct sequel to the original and fan-favorite Call of Duty®: Black Ops,” reads a section of the datamined description (as posted by CODTracker). “Black Ops Cold War will drop fans into the depths of the Cold War’s volatile geopolitical battle of the early 1980s. Nothing is ever as it seems in a gripping single-player Campaign, where players will come face-to-face with historical figures and hard truths, as they battle around the globe through iconic locales like East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, Soviet KGB headquarters and more.”

The description goes on to mention that the primary objective of Cold War will be to guide a group of “elite operatives” as they track a Soviet spy named Perseus who is “on a mission to destabilize the global balance of power and change the course of history.” As we discussed elsewhere, Perseus was the name of a real-life Soviet spy rumored return of a zombies mode, but no additional information is provided regarding the game’s multiplayer mode. There’s also no indication of whether or not Cold War will feature the return of Black Ops 4‘s Blackout mode or any kind of battle royale replacement for Warzone.

The description doesn’t list any additional plot details, but it does briefly mention the game’s multiplayer mode which will “bring a Cold War arsenal of weapons and equipment into the next generation of Multiplayer and Zombies experiences.” That clearly seems to verify that the game will feature the rumored return of a Zombies mode, but no additional information is provided regarding the game’s multiplayer mode. There’s also no indication of whether or not Cold War will feature the return of Black Ops 4‘s Blackout mode or any kind of battle royale replacement for Warzone.

The only other information provided deals with the various pre-order bonuses and Battle Pass tiers you can unlock by pre-ordering and purchasing the game’s Ultimate Edition. That section also notes that “console versions include current-gen version and next-gen version when it launches.”

While this information hasn’t been confirmed quite yet, the sources seem reliable and everything included in this leak tends to mesh with what’s been rumored about the game for quite some time. Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War (a game that really needs a shorter title) is set to be formally revealed soon, so we should be able to verify all of these details shortly.
