Link Tank: Mandoverse Creator Weighs in on R-Rated Star Wars
With Marvel having broken the seal on R-rated content under the Disney umbrella, could Star Wars ever follow suit? This and more in the Link Tank!
When it comes to the possibilities of an R-rated Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian creator David Filoni says, “There’s an audience for that.”
“Star Wars may be under the Disney umbrella, but that doesn’t mean R-rated stories are completely off the table. Marvel Studios (also a subsidiary of Disney) opened up 2024 with its first-ever TV-MA project in Echo, and will debut its first R-rated movie in theaters this summer with Deadpool & Wolverine. Filoni is right that there’s an audience for more mature stories, but something like a Star Wars project would need a good reason for being more mature.”
Euphoria stars continue to book new gigs, the latest being Hunter Schafer who will play an undisclosed role in Prime Video’s upcoming Blade Runner series.
“Hunter Schafer is set to star opposite Michelle Yeoh in the Prime Video series Blade Runner 2099. She is the second Euphoria main cast member to book a new series, joining Eric Dane… Details regarding Schafer’s role and the show’s plot are under wraps. Blade Runner 2099 is a Prime Video limited series following up the 2017 movie sequel Blade Runner 2049.”
With the recent announcement that the ‘80s cult horror film Possession is getting a remake, one news outlet is questioning whether that’s a good idea.
“A remake of Possession produced by Robert Pattinson, with Smile director Parker Finn attached to write and direct, has become the hot topic in Hollywood this week… And while Pattinson’s involvement is intriguing, after The Batman actor has proven himself to have a real affinity for freakish high-concept genre movies, Possession is the kind of singular horror movie that doesn’t warrant any kind of remake or reboot.”
Dwayne Johnson is back to work on the set of The Smashing Machine after an elbow injury delayed shooting.
“‘Any time your film is called The Smashing Machine, well, you’re going to get smashed up … I got banged up pretty good today in our scenes,’ the actor explained. Despite the accident, it seems the project is moving forward as scheduled. The Smashing Machine is set to release in December 2024.”
A new Metal Gear title is on the way, which makes it a good time to look back on one of the best prequels in the series.
“It’s been a long time coming but Metal Gear fans finally have something concrete to look forward to. Although series creator Hideo Kojima has moved on to other projects, his long-beloved stealth action franchise is making a grand return to the forefront of gaming with Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Now that we have our first look at Delta’s gameplay from the new trailer shown at the Xbox Games Showcase, we’re even more excited to get our hands on it.”
