Attack on Titan season 2 has officially ended.

Fans were disappointed everywhere by season 2’s measly 12-episode order—less than half of season 1’s respectable count of 25. But despite the massive cut, season 2 delivered all the elements that made the Attack on Titan anime great.

Attack on Titan Season 2 Story

The official synopsis of season 2 from Funimation:

“Eren Jaeger swore to wipe out every last Titan, but in a battle for his life he wound up becoming the thing he hates most. With his new powers, he fights for humanity’s freedom facing the monsters that threaten his home. After a bittersweet victory against the Female Titan, Eren finds no time to rest—a horde of Titans is approaching Wall Rose and the battle for humanity continues!”

Episode 1: “Beast Titans”

“Coupled with the military’s cover-up of a previous incident, the shocking discovery inside the wall causes a stir. Elsewhere, while the new Scout recruits are held for observation, a surprising threat appears.”

Episode 2: “I’m Home”

With the appearance of Titans within Wall Rose, Sasha and Conny ride as messengers to warn their villages of the impending threat.”

Episode 3: “Southwestward”

The Scouts search for a hole in the wall while Eren and the others learn that someone close may be hiding all the answers.”

Episode 4: “Soldier”

Unarmed and overwhelmed by the Titan assault on the castle, the only hope for the Scouts may lie in a promise and a secret.”

Episode 5: “Historia”

Utgard Castle comes crumbling down as Ymir desperately battles the Titans. Now, Christa must fulfill the promise they made long ago during winter training.”

Episode 6: “Warrior”

Following the battle, the Scouts regroup atop the wall only to find more questions than answers. Before they leave for Trost to get medical attention, Reiner must fulfill what he came to do.”

With a new enemy revealed, Eren and the Scouts fight back using all the techniques at their disposal. However, the Armored and Colossal Titan have other plans in mind.”

Attack on Titan Season 2 Episode Count

In a somewhat disappointing turn of events, there will only be 12 episodes of the second season of Attack on Titan, according to the studio, which confirmed the episode count in this tweet. Animation creator Thomas Romain (Oban Star Racersfurther explained in this Tweet that this reduction in episode count is due to budgetary reasons.

Attack on Titan Season 2: Release Date & Time

Attack on Titan season 2 premieres April 1.

There will be none of the usual trans-Pacific delays. Thanks to Funimation, who’s secured the streaming rights to simulcast Attack on Titan season 2, fans in America can look forward to being able to watch each episode, subbed, and dubbed on a slight delay, on the same day as their counterparts in Japan.

Funimation Entertainment further announced today that Hulu and Crunchyroll will also be streaming the second season. English-subtitled episodes will be available across all three platforms, with English dub to follow within weeks.

“We’re thrilled to be premiering Attack on Titan Season 2 together with Hulu and Crunchyroll to anime fans across the U.S. and Canada. Fan excitement has been building non-stop since our acquisition announcement and our clip reveal last December. Attack on Titan Season 2 will not disappoint,” stated CEO and founder of Funimation founder and CEO, Gen Fukunaga.

All three streaming platforms are expected to release the first episode of season 2 tomorrow (April 1) at around 10:30 AM EST.
