The Walking Dead: Dwight Moving to Fear the Walking Dead

The Walking Dead's Austin Amelio will join the cast of Fear the Walking Dead season 5!

The Walking Dead veteran Austin Amelio is moving to Fear the Walking Dead, according to EW. Amelio’s character, Dwight, will appear on the spinoff series’ fifth season, which is due out at some point in 2019.

Dwight is the second character to journey beyond the borders of The Walking Dead‘s Virginia setting and into Fear the Walking Dead‘s American south. Last year saw the arrival of Morgan (Lennie James) to the spinoff series, which experienced a pretty big shakeup in its fourth season, including new showrunners, quite a few new regulars, and the exit of both Kim Dickens and Frank Dillane as the stars of the show. Of the original cast from season 1, only Alycia Debnam-Carey and Colman Domingo remain (although Ruben Blades’ Daniel Salazar is probably still alive somewhere).

How Dwight will arrive on Fear the Walking Dead remains to be seen, but we’re sure he’ll come with some baggage. The last time we saw him on The Walking Dead was in the final episode of season 8 when Daryl banished him from Alexandria after the fall of Negan. Dwight set out to find his beloved wife Sherry, who disappeared in season 7, fleeing from Negan and the Saviors after she helped Daryl escape captivity. It wouldn’t be too surprising if Dwight’s continued search for Sherry is a major part of his storyline in Fear the Walking Dead season 5.

Not much is known about the fifth season of the spinoff series except that all the survivors of season 4 are expected for return, as the group begins its mission to find and help other people. Could that be how Morgan, Alicia, Strand, and the rest of the group encounter Dwight? How will Morgan react to seeing Dwight again?

It’s likely that Fear the Walking Dead season 5 will take place a few years before the current season of The Walking Dead since the flagship series recently introduced a six-year time jump to the story. So don’t expect worlds to collide too hard any time soon.
