Hunters: Super Bowl TV Spot Shows Al Pacino Hunt Nazis

The Super Bowl spot for Jordan Peele's Hunters shows Al Pacino hunting Nazis and raising his voice to an 11.

A clear product of the age of peak TV, the pedigree around a show like Hunters wouldn’t exist a few years ago. Yet the Amazon series does with its Oscar winning assets: executive producer Jordan Peele and lead actor Al Pacino. And did we mention the Nazis, yet?

Get Out and Us director Peele executive-produces Hunters, which is described as a “vengeance-driven Nazi hunting series,” set to arrive on Amazon Prime Video with a 10-episode inaugural season in February. The series was created by David Weil (Moonfall), who serves as writer who also serves as executive producer. It was originally titled The Hunt, but Amazon, perhaps wisely, changed the name, which it shared with Blumhouse’s controversy-afflicted, theatrically-pulled horror offering.

Hunters follows a “diverse band of Nazi Hunters living in 1977 New York City,” according to the Amazon press statement. “The Hunters, as they’re known, have discovered that hundreds of high-ranking Nazi officials are living among us and conspiring to create a Fourth Reich in the US. The eclectic team of Hunters will set out on a bloody quest to bring the Nazis to justice and thwart their new genocidal plans.”

Hunters Release Date

Hunters will premiere all episodes on Amazon Prime on Friday, Feb. 21, 2020.

The series is also going big in its hopes of making a splash before its late February premiere. Hence Amazon paying for Super Bowl real estate during this Sunday’s big game. But for those too impatient to see how the Super Bowl spot remixes Neil Diamond’s “Coming to America,” Amazon has released the extended version, which you can view below.

Here’s an earlier trailer for Amazon Prime’s Hunters. At nearly three minutes, there is plenty of both Al Pacino and Nazi-hunting action.

Previously the first full trailer for Amazon Prime Video’s Hunters featured Al Pacino’s Meyer Offerman giving one hell of a pep talk to his Nazi-hunting upstarts.

You can also check out the first teaser trailer just below, showing Pacino’s Offerman making vengeful machinations of a mitzvah.

Hunters Cast

Al Pacino co-stars in Hunters as Meyer Offerman, the mastermind of the mysterious Nazi-assailing group, the Hunters. For Pacino – a big screen legend whose awards accolades include one Oscar, five Golden Globes, two Primetime Emmys and even a BAFTA – this project represents a historic moment in his half-century-spanning career, marking his very first regular television role – well, not counting his roles on the 2003 HBO miniseries, Angels in America and TV movies such as Paterno and You Don’t Know Jack.

Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Fury) will play the show’s co-lead, Jonah Heidelbaum. The character will be thrust into the world of Nazi hunting when his grandmother is killed by a mysterious intruder in their apartment. This tragedy will send Jonah on a quest for vengeance, requiring the Nazi-hunter training of Pacino’s character.

Josh Radnor will play Lonny Flash, described as “a movie star who’s secretly a member of Meyer’s (Pacino) organization.” Radnor, the longtime co-star of CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, has since been fielding TV runs on NBC drama Rise and PBS Civil War drama Mercy Street. He was most recently seen in an episode of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy and co-starring in rom-com Social Animals.

Here’s the rest of the cast:

Kate Mulvany (Lambs of God, Secret City) as Sister Harriet, one of the members of the Hunters.

James Le Gros (The Passage, Drugstore Cowboy) as Detective Grimbsy, a veteran FBI agent and New York bureau boss to Millie (the previously cast Jerrika Hinton).

Henry Hunter Hall (Sela and The Spades, Gridlock’d) as Jonah’s friend, Sherman “Cheeks” Johnson.

Jeannie Berlin (The Night Of, The First) as Jonah’s grandmother.

Jerrika Hinton (Grey’s Anatomy) as a female lead, Millie Malone. Millie is an FBI agent marginalized at the Bureau because of her race and gender.

Dylan Baker (The Americans) as Biff Simpson, a politician hiding a dark secret *cough*Nazi!*cough*.

“When David Weil first shared [Hunters] with me, I immediately knew that we had to be involved. Its cathartic,” Peele said in the project’s initial statement. “Its noir. It’s frighteningly relevant. It’s exactly what I want to see on television. I am thrilled to be working with Amazon in bringing this incredible vision to the world.”

Hunters, which is based on an original idea and will draw from real-life events, “is edge-of-your seat entertainment that is not only culturally relevant but deliciously original,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “David Weil, Jordan Peele, and the entire Monkeypaw and Sonar Entertainment teams represent the dream team! We can’t wait to get started!”

“Jordan Peele and Monkeypaw Productions have exhibited a unique ability to develop content that becomes part of the larger cultural conversation,” David Ellender, CEO of Sonar Entertainment, said in a statement. “We’re also very excited that [Hunters] will be on Amazon, which we feel is the ideal platform for Jordan and David’s amazing story.”
